I want to play beyond my comforts - Fawad Khan

By Harshada Vedpathak

He has huge fan following in India through his television serials, Fawad Khan is household name in Indian Film Industry. Here Fawad is ready with his latest film Kapoor & Sons. End of the year he can be seen in Ayi Dil Mushkil, which been produce by Karan Johar and two other Pakistani films. Here this handsome hunk from neigbouring country is talking about films, fans and who he really is in a candid chat…

How did the association with Karan Johar happened?

Karan only told me that the attention drawn more towards me because his mom and her friends. And that favored me as they use to tell him cast me in his films. Then he has begun watching my serials. And I had suited the role, so I am here in the film.

In Kapoor & Sons promo, Alia calls you up as hot and you react like shy person. How do you react when your fans calls you hot?

(laughs) Exactly like that……

What will you say about Alia?

She is very strong person and wonderful co-actor to work with. Alia is very deceiving, means her demine is like short n sweet girl. And all of sudden she start talking…and you say oh she is making lot of scene. At a time she is unpredictable too. Whatever interaction I had with Alia, my opinion is that she is extremely intelligent and observant. She is very informed about her craft. She is aware about the mechanic of the industry. She knows all aspects of film making from actors, director and producer point of view. At such a young age she is compress so much as performer. I don’t know what she will do in coming ten years. I think she will wipe us all.

Two brothers following for one girl story been used many are time in the films. How is the treatment been given to Kapoor & Son is different from rest of those films?

Treatment of the film is the original part of the film and that has been treated with settle nuance way. Were actors are not larger than life. You must have seen many films were there must be a conflict in the film. What makes this film adorable and loveable is that its focuses on relationship of the people. Many films you see were one person carries the film oh his or her should but here you can see all the characters in this films are equally important. If the film is good and audiences like it then film need not have to be different, just for the sake of being different.

As per the newspapers report, Alia and Siddharth are going on. Do you feel isolated or left out?

Onscreen they are very popular. When we sit for the interview, isolation happens. I don’t know many things. So I just keep quiet, I would not call it isolation. If I know the answer then I do talk about it.

Who is your role model?

I look up to my wife. She is balance individual. Her mind is at a right place. She looks at things from very unbiased and different prospective. Sometime I intend to judge. But she will constantly remind me to check from another angel.

How that working in Indian and Pakistani films is are different?

Mechanics are the same. Shooting, acting and craft of cinema making, drama or recording a songs is same all over the World. The difference is only in the technical expertise and most of the time availability of technicians.  Because at our end, industry is rebooting. Technicians are now beginning to get accustomed to film but they are speeding up with serials and advertisement for now.

Have you seen Neerja? Why is that it’s not been allowed to released in Pakistan?

I had not seen Neerja. I can’t make any comment on this topic as I am not active on social media also. Second is that I don’t turn on my television for news. I just turn it out to watch films or video game. So I am the least politically informed person.

I have heard some controversy about it. Some were saying it was banned and it’s not allowed. But Censor board says it’s never been presented to us to evaluate at the first place. Or may be print from India must have reached beyond Board described time to evaluate it. So lack of enough time must have also happen. It’s not the matter of being jittery about it. There are certain film which has been banned in Pakistan. They might be hearting sentiments of people and that is Censor Board’s decision. You cannot contest with it as being the member of the fraternity. That is their decision. My first film Khuda Ke Liye has banned in America and we followed their decision.

How do you work on your character in the film?

I just relay on my director. But the truth is that I ask many questions to the director like where is that this character is born, what kind of food he like, what is he like to read, what kind of abusive words he uses. Answers to these questions help me to add dimension to the character. It’s like somehow method acting. And that can allows you to play with many layers.

You had land your voice to band before, are you going to land your voice in here too?

I was never a stage singer; I use to scream on state as I was the part of metal band. In my young age I was having long hair. I use to shout a lot and was like rebellious kind of person. Me and my friends were like gorillas. I was like very angry kind of person. It was like cool to be angry. So I had live that part of life and enjoyed it too.  Over many years I had not practice murki, taan. And now its bit too late also to practices. Now a day I had began writing, I writes a lot.

As we all know that you got very big fan following, how do your wife reacts to it? Is she possessive?

There are passive moments too. They are there only because there are people who just encroach your space. That makes her upset sometimes.

Is it flattering when people call you handsome?

When people call me handsome, it’s hard to believe and it’s bothered me. Because I don’t think I am handsome. Believe me if I could have handsome, I could have flaunted it in many ways. So knowing this, it doesn’t affect me.

Does u believe in box office? And hundred crore club?

I don’t understand what is hundred crore club and ail. But what I know is there should be return of your money what you had invested in the film. I believe in realistic expectation of BO. But what I feel is that the race of three, four or five hundred crore earning is slowly sucking the passion and the originality, geniality out of the film. Now a day’s films are not made the way they use to make. Because now it has become so much of a fast food race kind of affair. The film which has higher turnover has won. It’s like casino, a gambling table. I don’t like to get into that. Film should earn profit; producer should get his money and that how business works. You can’t become billionaire with the film then its gambling, it’s not film Industry.

You got huge TV and Film fan following. Where do you get creative satisfaction?

I would like to play more of a different character. I hope my fans support me in that. I like to depart from what I had played earlier. I want to get out of comfort zone and try something new. What I mean is craft can be use for some serious acting as well. One just has to keep their outlook constantly change so they can keep themselves fresh I want to get in to that zone. I love what Aamir Khan is does. I really admire his carrier graph and defiantly to look up to.

If story and your character are interesting then you got something to play new every time. And can, entertain audiences otherwise your audience will get bored. If they don’t get bored today then some other day may be. I don’t want that time to come in my case. As this is my profession, passion and carrier, so I want to give longitivity to it.

How do you choose your story to get associated?

The basic is that said story should have feeling. Another important aspect what I feel is that, contemporary story market, which we are yet to tap. As middle class family is changing the scenario, persuade of happiness and that is what connect with masses more. That is what commercial. U can live the life of an average man and tell an inspiring character. If u can do fiction then it’s all right or your story is based on real life character then is more interesting.
