Chandan Roy Sanyal made short film on Freedom

With Independence Day just around the corner, preparations are on in full swing to celebrate the moment when India won its freedom. But in our hearts, do we really know what it means to be truly independent, what it felt like living in those days when freedom was luxury and how incredibly fortunate we are today, to be able to celebrate our independence? These are a few themes that will be explored through the much-awaited ‘Azaad’, an inspiring short film written and directed by Chandan Roy Sanyal, exclusively for  SonyLIV.com and the SonyLIV App.

Produced by Shariq Patel & Trigno Media for SonyLIV - Sony Pictures Networks’ (SPN) premium digital video entertainment platform, the short film narrates the tale of a nation across two generations, through the eyes of the protagonist Azaad and explores what it truly means to be free in today’s day and age.

Set across multiple timelines, ‘Azaad’ is a film about a 40-year-old man with his wife Akira in tow, as he returns to his hometown after many years.

Apart from Chandan Roy Sanyal, who plays the protagonist, the cast comprises several noteworthy artists, including names such as Adil Hussain, Sudeep Modak, Inderpreet Singh, Noel Manasseh, Amol Parashar, Shresth Saxena, Merenla Imsong, and Abhay Mishra.

Showcasing how little has changed over the years with respect to India’s pride in its independence, the short film, which is available exclusively on the SonyLIV web and app platforms, makes for a worthy watch this Independence Day.

Freedom did not come cheap to us, an entire generation paid the price for it.” – ‘Azaad’ ‪#‎NowPlaying‬ on Sony LIV
