Ben-Hur’s deadly chariot race against Messala, which was shot over 32 days in Rome

Recreating the most beloved historical ‘Ben Hur’ was no easy task, but even laborious was filming the iconic scenes to match the scale and grandeur of the original. And the makers of the movie decided to go above and beyond to get the scene just right while shooting Ben-Hur’s deadly chariot race against Messala, which was shot over 32 days in Rome. Talking about the scene, Producer Sean Daniels said: “We are here to make the greatest chariot race yet!”
 
In regards to the actual chariot racing, Toby Kebbell, an expert horse rider, disclosed the tricks to govern a real chariot: “Well, first you place the fastest and youngest horse on the exterior, with the wisest and most veteran one next to him to kind of say, then you have next to him a younger horse that is sort of a lazy bones that has to be jeered up by the rest, and finally on the inside there is a young and kind of inexperienced horse that will not dare attempt things like for instance jumping the corner.” BEN HUR releases on Friday, August 19, 2016 in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
