It was the World Premiere of the film Marathi film Lapachhapi on June 5, 2016. Brooklyn Film Festival, Windmill Studios... a moment to cherish for India and Marathi cinema. This was the first ever Marathi film at Brooklyn and the first Indian horror at the festival since 19 years of inception.
The filmmakers were very well appreciated for their efforts and the turnout was quite good despite the fact that there were thundershowers that lashed Brooklyn last evening.
"The response of the audience was superb. They emoted at the right places and we knew that the film was struck the right chord not just with the Indian diaspora but the locals in the US as well and that was the marketing strategy from day one," says S Ramachandran, Associate Producer of Lapachhapi.
As for the director, he handled a series of questions post screening with elan. "It was a good audience and they understood the film despite the fact that we were showing the film in Marathi albeit with English subtitles," he says.
Jitendra Patil, the producer of Lapachhapi knew that this was a battle won. And now to fight the war.
Incidentally Lapachhapi did not just have the world premiere at the festival. it was also the official selection at the festival, making it the first Indian horror at Brooklyn and the first Marathi film ever at Brooklyn since 19 years of its inception.
