MAMTA KULKARNI DENIES CHARGES IN THANE DRUG HAUL CASE

Shocked by baseless allegations of her alleged involvement in the Rs 2,000 crore drug haul by Thane Police, former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni on Friday vociferously denied the charges leveled against her and sought a probe against the police to unearth the reason of dragging her name into the mess.

“I am innocent of the accusations against me, I have never engaged in any act contrary to the principles of the Indian statutes and am a victim of highhandedness, crude, unprofessional and unethical conspiracy by the officers of DEA of the United States and Thane Police,” Mamta Kullkarni wrote in a plea to Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju.

Mamta Kulkarni is based in Mombasa in Kenya and leads the life of a yogini.

On Friday, the legal team of Mamta Kulkarni was in Mumbai, where they denied all the charges against her.
This includes Parvez Memon, Senior Partner, MZM Legal, Daniel Arshack, lawyer of Mamta Kulkarni from New York, Cliff Ombeta, lawyer of Mamta Kulkarni from Kenya, Sudeep Pasbola, lawyer of Jay Mukhi.

Legal luminary Majeed Memon, a Rajya Sabha member and Human Rights and Constitutional Law Expert, was also present.

They pointed out that under direct pressure, guidance and abetment at the hands of the DEA of the US, the Thane Police are hell bent to implicate her without there being any iota of evidence. one of the accused in the case Jai Mukhi had retracted his coerced confession.

The Thane Police has resorted to all foul means in the investigation and only with a view to sensationalize have coined a highly exaggerated figure of ‘2000 crore drug haul’ without any basis,

substance or material on record. They have used her celebrity status to her disadvantage and have sought to steal a few minutes of fame through publication of her 20 year old professional images in skimpy clothes to run titillating news shows and put her to a purely speculative media trial.

They informed that the alleged contraband ‘Ephedrine’ is a controlled substance and the recovered substance is D-Ephedrine which is a waste product with zero market value. Under such circumstances the entire investigation is a sham and is being played like a scripted act to please the US agencies.

According to Arshack, the American agencies have only developed a “tunnel vision” and used cherry- picked intelligence to fit their theory to her case.

The case against Mamta Kulkarni is so flimsy that it does not meet or even concur with the Indian standards of evidence and would not even get to the trial stage in India, if she challenges the proceedings in the High Court, said Memon.

Mamta Kulkarni’s legal team said that the MEA and the MHA must evaluate the case properly before initiating extradition proceedings against her.

In her letter, she also wrote: “I am innocent of the accusations against me, I have never engaged in any act contrary to the principles of the Indian statutes and am a victim of highhandedness, crude, unprofessional and unethical conspiracy by the officers of DEA and Thane Police. My life has been in disarray because of the unfounded allegations and suspicions. I am not a malefactor and have always been opposed to illegal means. The United States of America has employed a fundamentally flawed methodology which has further resulted in totally unreliable conclusions. The findings of the Thane Police / DEA are not only problematic, but also convoluted, confusing, and replete with conclusions that are suspect. They want Mr. (Vicky) Goswami to be extradited to the USA from Kenya by all means fair and foul and are using me as a pawn.”
