Abhay Deol acquires three NFDC Film Bazaar titles – critically-acclaimed indie films Labour of Love, Leeches & Kaagaz Ki Kashtiand champions a straight-to-digital release route for the productions.
Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s Labour of Love was submitted to Viewing Room in 2014 and was also a part of the ‘Film Bazaar Recommends’ section. Payal Sethi’s Leeches is a short film that was a part of 2015’s Viewing Room. Brahmanand Singh’s Kaagaz Ki Kashti is a documentary on Jagjit Singh that is a part of the Viewing Room this year.
Personally curated by Deol who is a regular attendee at the Film Bazaar says, “The Film Bazaar has been happening now for 10 years. I have attended it at least a good three to four times, and I have seen a lot of growth each time and it’s really exciting. Nina has worked on it so dedicatedly with a small team, and the structure that they’ve put forward is very productive. It’s great that they entertain projects in all stages of development, whether it’s in pre-production or in post-production. The Film Bazaar creates an environment that aids the filmmaker at various levels, and it’s become accessible to a lot of people.“
Speaking on the acquisitions, Deol comments, “I saw Labour of Love at IFFLA and was blown away with Aditya’s aesthetic sensibilities, and his ability to spin a story without any spoken dialogues! Payal’s Leeches is an important film that people need to watch. She has beautifully woven a compelling story around an issue that is anathema to our social fiber and wellbeing. My most recent select is Kaagaz Ki Kashti, which pays homage to Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh and premiered at MAMI 2016. Brahmanand is a savant behind the lens and succeeds in powerfully bringing the legend back to life. I strongly believe in these films and want to ensure that audiences across the world watch them.”
