FILM GLOBAL BABA IS NOT AGAINST RELIGION –ABHIMANYU SINGH
Whether it is Ransa Singh in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulaal , Bukka Reddy of RGV’s Rakta Chritra or Meghji of Bhansali’s RAMLEELA Abhimanyu has stood out for his strong portrayals on the strength of his performances. When approached for GLOBAL BABA ‘s lead role Abhimanyu jumped at the idea. “Getting to play a lead title role is a huge opportunity for me. I come from the hindi belt of India and we have grown up encountering so many such baba’s in our life time. One hears stories about them but for the first time I actually realised the power these godmen posses. In mass gathering shoots people actually started believing that I possessed some special powers and could help them. It made me feel sad.”
On being asked if he felt he was spreading these regressive ideas, Abhimanyu retorted,” i don’t think the idea of global Baba is to promote this culture. It aim is to educate the masses and create awareness amongst masses. My film is not against religion. I believe in spirituality myself and I feel India has great spiritual and Yoga guru’s who have been doing commendable work. But it is important to separate wheat from chaff. Its is important to not get fooled by the fake baba who are making a fortune out of fooling gullible people. It is important that we do a background check on these people ‘s background before following them blindly.”
Talking about the parallels drawn between political leaders he smirked “We are bound to draw inferences from real life. There may be few similarities but I don’t think they are based on anyone in particular.”
It tells the story of Chillam Pehelwan played by Abhimanyu Singh as a seasoned criminal who after losing protection of his political bosses, takes refuge in the world of religion. The narration of the film progresses with the rise of Chillam Pehelwan to Global Baba manages to attract massive following of blind devotees that he becomes almost invincible & uncontrollable for anyone daring to challenge his insatiable greed for power.
