The Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band is probably the single most significant non-film music act to debut in the last one year. Since it’s launch by Y-Films, Yash Raj Films’ youth wing, the first 3 singles including aPharrell Williams’ Happy cover and a Sonu Nigam collaboration have stacked up over 10 million views besides huge worldwide buzz.
Now, for its fourth single, the band is joined by 14-year old, Zanai Bhosle, the legendary grand-daughter of Asha Bhosle, for a contemporary rendition of the popular Marathi hit, ‘Hil Pori Hila’. The new version sung in Hindi, English and Marathi is composed by Shameer Tandon, also the curator of the band. It’s unique musically as there are no musical instruments used at all and has been produced using a format popularly called ‘Stomp’ where only hands, feet and various objects like boxes, buckets, bottles, Red Label tea packs, cups, spoons, whistles are used giving the song a ‘never-heard-before’ take.
Asha Bhosle said, “I feel proud to have sung songs for Yash Chopraji and his entire family for so long, and today, my granddaughter has sung for Y-Films. I can’t be happier and I’m glad the relationship between us has remained the same ever since. It is true that in our society, one gender has always been ignored and looked down upon. We all need to take a stand to help them and empower them. And I’m so glad a company like YRF has taken this up and I love the way they’re spreading awareness.”
Added Ashish Patil, Head, Y-Films, “The world has always judged the transgender community but in the eyes of children, we are all equal. Zanai comes in as the voice of that generation telling you how to make the world a more welcoming place through literally a foot-stomping song. At the end of Hil Pori Hila’s video is a sneak into another H-U-M-U-N-G-O-U-S such collaboration with none other than THE Hrithik Roshan!”
Apart from the band and Zanai, the fun music video directed by Nupur Bhargava & Hitesh Kewalya of Invisible Rabbit, features 25 underprivileged children from the Salaam Bombay Foundation, dancing with abandon. These children are trying to break out of their circumstances and just like the band itself, are nevertheless happy to shake their troubles away. The Hindi lyrics are by Varun Likhate, and the Stomp Mix has been arranged & conducted by Nishadh Chandra. The band comprises Asha Jagtap, Bhavika Patil, Chandni Suvarnakar, Fida Khan, Komal Jagtap, Ravina Jagtap.
