Actor Anuj Saxena booked in bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing role of actor-cum-businessman Anuj Saxena in connection with a bribery case in which an official of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has already been arrested.

Anuj is known for his works in television dramas ‘Kkusum’, ‘Kumkum’, Saara Akaash’, ‘Risshton Ki Dor’ etc, besides small roles in a couple of Bollywood films. He is a co-owner of Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

The CBI has booked Anuj for corruption for allegedly offering a bribe to the tune of Rs 20 lakh to director general of corporate affairs B K Bansal who has been arrested in the case.

The investigating agency has filed an FIR against Anuj alleging that his company had bribed Bansal to ensure that he does not order a Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) inspection against Elder Pharmaceuticals for charges of illegal collection of Rs 175 crore from 24,000 investors, diverting funds to companies abroad, and not making returns in due time, The Times of India stated quoting CBI sources.

The actor, who is chief operating officer and chairman cum managing director of the company, is believed to be abroad and could be questioned as soon as he arrives in India, CBI sources said.

‘Middleman’ Vishwadeep Bansal and two private individuals are also in CBI custody. The agency alleged that Anuj had allegedly sought the assistance of Delhi-based middleman Vishwadeep Bansal who was also working as their distributor in Delhi to scuttle the SFIO probe by bribing B K Bansal.
