Angry Indian Goddesses premieres in India at the Jio MAMI 17^th Mumbai Film Festival

After garnering plaudits globally, Pan Nalin's film Angry Indian Goddesses(AIG), a story which explores the free spirit of a group of Indian girls in Goa, premiered in India at the 17th edition of Jio MAMI 17th Mumbai Film Festival with Star India on November 3^rd and many of the big names in Bollywood attended the same. 

The star cast that includes Sandhya Mridul, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anushka Manchanda, Amrit Maghera, Rajshri Deshpande and Pavleen Gujral, were present at the premiere of Angry Indian Goddesses along with the director Pan Nalin. 


Angry Indian Goddesses follows the stories of seven girls. It narrates the tale of how Frieda, essayed by actress Sarah-Jane Dias, invites her closest girlfriends to Goa to announce her wedding, and it all turns into a wild bachelorette party. Angry Indian Goddesses is expected to release with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo on November 12.

Kumar Taurani’s TIPS has acquired the music rights of Anticlock Films’ Shab directed by National award winning filmmaker Onir.

Set in Delhi, the romance-drama featuring Raveena Tandon and introducing two talented actors - Ashish Bisht and Arpita Chatterjee, is an edgy, intense relationship story revolving around three central characters. Shab is a story of the search of happiness and love of multiple characters caught in the web of circumstances of an unforgiving and cold city.

Considering the movie subject, Onir has brought on board his favourite composer Mithoon to compose the songs. The lyrics have been penned by Mithoon and Amitabh Varma.

It took merely 5 minutes for Kumar Taurani (TIPS) to come on board once he was given the presentation of the music by Onir and Sanjay Suri. The music giant was more than happy to associate with Onir and Sanjay Suri once again after their successful association in Bas Ek Pal (2006).

“The album has a fresh appeal to it catering to various moods of life including romance, agony, sorrow, happiness and is composed by my favourite composer Mithoon, who started his musical journey with Bas Ek Pal,” says Onir.

Shab is slated to release early next year.

The actress has recently been signed for T-Series’ next single, opposite Sooraj Pancholi . Directed and choreographed by Remo D’Souza, the song titled “GF” (Girlfriend) is a youthful,hip-hop number that promises to be a hit at clubs.

While Sooraj has already begun his rehearsals with Remo, actress is soon to start her rehearsals with 13.13, a popular dance crew.

Said Bhushan Kumar, “Sooraj has proved his mettle as a dancer with his acting debut, and Jacqueline, we all know, is good with her moves. They are exactly what we were looking for to feature in our new single."

Actor and philanthropist Vivek Oberoi, who is associated with Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) for more than a decade, lent his support to an initiative to raise funds for cancer patients.

Vivek walked the ramp for designer Maheka Mirpuri for a cancer fundraiser recently. Interestingly, the talented actor skipped his fifth wedding anniversary to attend the social cause.

Talking about his association with the cause, Vivek said, “I have been associated with helping cancer patient, especially children, for 12 years. And during this period, we have managed to help out more than 200,000 children.”

“Most of their stories are incredibly heart wrenching because they all come from really far from their places where there is no medical facility available for the treatment of cancer. I have always seen these children are so resilient and so strong, just a little bit of a helping hand works wonders for them,” Vivek adds.

पन्नासाव्या वर्षी काय रेझॉल्युशन ठरवलं आहे...

या वर्षी मी वयाच्या पंच्याहत्तरीपर्यंत प्रत्येक प्रश्नावर हसत मात करायची असं ठरवलं आहे. मला वाटतं वयाची पन्नाशी गाठणं यानं आयुष्यात काही फरक पडतो असं नव्हे. कारण मी वयाची नंबरी किंवा बॉक्स ऑफीस नंबरीवर विश्वास ठेवत नाही.

वाढतं वय या गोष्टीची तुला कधी भिती वाटते काय....

पंचवीस वर्षाच्या कारकीर्दीनंतरही मी आयुष्याबद्दल काही प्रमाणात समाधानी आहे. त्यात आलेले चांगले वाईट प्रसंग, चढ ऊतार हेच तर आयुष्य आहे असं मी मानतो. 

तुम्ही कलाकार आणि स्ट्रार आहात, या दोन स्टेटसपैकी तुम्हाला कश्यात समाधान लाभते...

आजपर्यत मी अनेक चित्रपटांत काम केले आहे, मात्र मी ऐका चित्रपटाची तुलना दुसरया चित्रपटाबरोबर कधीच केलेली नाही. परंतु तुम्ही फॅन या चित्रपटाचं म्हणाल तर तो चित्रपट माझ्यासाठी खास आहे. माझ्या जमा चित्रपटपुंजीपैकी तो ऐक चित्रपट आहे.

वयाच्या या टप्यात तुमच्यासाठी आयुष्याचा कोणता कालावधी महत्वाचा वाटतो तुम्हाला...

माझे आईबाबा वारले, ते निघुन गेलेत माझ्या आयुष्यातुन. मात्र ते गेल्यावर माझ्या आयुष्यात आलेल्या माझ्या तिन मुलांनी माझ्या आयुष्याची कसर भरुन काढली. या दोन टप्यांखेरीज, मला वाटते मी आताच कोठे कामाला सुरवात केली आहे, अजुन बरच काही गाठायचे आहे.

आता तुम्ही म्हणे वर्षागणिक तिनच चित्रपट करणार आहात अशी चर्चा आहे, ती कितपत खरी आहे...

मीच तसं सांगत आलो आहे. कारण मला बराचसा वेळ माझ्या मुलांबरोबर घालवायची इच्छा होते. दुसरी गोष्ट म्हणजे, वयाच्या पन्नाशीनंतर जे काम मला आवडंत, ज्यामध्ये माझं मन रुळतं तेच काम मी करायला पाहिजे असं मला वाटतं. आणि मी त्या पध्दतीनं मिळणारं काम ऐन्जॉय करत आहे.

तम्हाला जर बालपणीच्या काळात परत जाता आलं तर कोणत्या कालावधीमध्ये आणि जागेत तुम्ही स्थिरावाल...

माझं सगळं बालपण दिल्लीत गेलं आहे त्यामुळे ती जागा अजुनही माझ्या मनावर रुंजी घालत आहे. पुराना किला या परिसरात माझे वडील कॅन्टीन चालवत होतेत. तेथे अभिनय गुरु  अल काजी अभिनय प्रशिक्षण शाळा चालवायचे, ती पाहता मला अभिनेता व्हायची आसक्ती लागली. डी.डी.ऐ. क़ॉलनी जवळ माझे घर होते. काही वर्षापुर्वी मी माझ्या मुलांना मध्यरात्री तेथे नेलं आहे.

तुम्ही चित्रपटाता बदलता काळ जवळुन पाहिला आहे...

बदलत्या काळासमवेत बदलणे फार गरजेचे असते, आता चित्रपटाची भाषा फारच बदललेली दिसुन येतेय. त्यामुळे आता मी जेव्हा चित्रपट निवडतो ते नविन लोकांबरोबर कारण ते नविन तंत्राचा वापर करीत आहेत. सोबत माझे विचार देखिल त्यांच्याबरोबर जुळणे गरजेचे आहे. जे दिग्दर्शक मला ऐक कलाकार म्हणुन नविन काही करवुन घेण्याची सक्ती करतात त्यांच्याबरोबर मला काम करायला आवडते. आणि मला माझे जुने चित्रपट रिक्रीयेट करण्यापेक्षा नविन काही तरी करायला आवडेल.

तुम्ही सोशल मिडीयाबर खुप सक्रीय आहात, तुमच्या फॅन क्लबला काय सल्ला दयाल..

सोशल मिडीयावर शिव्या देण्याचे प्रकार करु नयेत. शिव्या दयायच्या असतील तर तोंडावर दया. तर काही लोकं माझ्या कुटुंबियांबद्दल सोशल मिडीयावर गरळ ओकत असतात. ते त्यांनी थाबवावे, या सगळ्या फॅन लोकांना मी माझे मित्र मानतो हे त्यांनी विसरु नये.

पुरस्कार परत करण्याची, कल्चरल इनटॉलरन्सबददल एक लाट ऊसळु लागली आहे त्याबदद्ल काय सांगाल...

या सगळ्या मुद्यावर मी गप्प बसणं पसंद करतो. नाहीतर वादंग माजण्याची शक्यताच अधिकच असते. मला असं वाटतं की, सांस्ककृतिकतेला कोणत्याही वादात आणु नये. कारण कलेला जातपात कधीच नसते. तसेच कला हि कलाकारापेक्षा फार मोठी असते. दुरावा किंवा काही वादंग असेल तर तो कलेच्या माध्यमातुन मिटवता येतो. आपण कलेच्या माध्यमातुन पुढे जाण्याऐवजी मागे जात आहोत असे मला वाटते.

मला जर का पुरस्कार परत दयायचे नसतील तर ते कोणीच माझ्याकडुन हिसकावुन घेणार नाही असं मला वाटते. पुरस्कार परत करण्याऐवजी जर ऐखादया मुद्यावर आपला स्टॅन्ड घेणं केव्हाही चांगल असं मी मानतो. (हसुन) पहलं मला अवॉर्ड द्या नंतर मी ते परत करतो. मात्र प्रेक्षकांचे प्रेम हा एक असा अवॉड आहे जो कोणीच परत घेऊ शकत नाही.

दिलवाले या चित्रपटाबरोबर बाजीराव मस्तानी हा चित्रपटदेकिल प्रदर्शित होत आहे, त्याबद्दल काय सांगाल...

मी त्यांच्या चित्रपटाला शुभेच्छा देतो. चित्रपट तयार करायला फार मेहनत लागते हे मी जाणतो. दोन्ही चित्रपट जर एकाच दिवशी प्रदर्शित होत असल्यानं मी माझ्या टिमला त्यांच्या विरोधात कोणतीच चुकीची गोष्ट न बोलण्याची तंबी दिली आहे.

सरोगसी या विषयावर नविन कायदा येण्याची चर्चा सुरु आहे, तुम्ही त्याबद्दल काय सांगाल...

मला त्या कायदयाबद्दल काहीच ठावुक नाही. सरकार जर त्या विषयाला रेग्युलर करु इच्छीत असेल तर ती चांगलीच गोष्ट आहे. आमच्याकडे आर्यन यायच्या आधि मी त्या विषयावर बराच रिर्सच केला होता. सरोगसी हा विषय, ज्यांना मुलं नाहीत त्यांच्यासाठी हा नक्कीच जिव्हाळ्याचा आहे, ज्याद्वारे त्या पालकांना मुलांच सुख मिळु शकेल.

पडदयावर प्रत्येक चित्रपटात तुम्ही रोमॅन्टीक दिसता, त्यामुळे की काय तुमची फिमेल फॅन फॉलोईग अधिक आहे, काय सिक्रेट आहे त्याचे...

मी कोणत्याही वयोगटाच्या स्रीयांना नेहमीच मानसन्मान, आदर देऊन भेटतो. मला वाटतं त्यामुळे मी त्यांना पसंद असेन. मला वाटतं कोणत्याही मुलीला प्रेमात पाडायचे असेल तर तिला तिच्या माणसाकडुन डिग्नीटी दिली गेली पाहिजे. यालाच रोमान्स आणि प्रेम म्हणतात.

अनेक कलाकार हे विदेशी चित्रपटात काम करत आहेत, तुम्ही त्या दिशेने काही विचार केला आहे काय...

खरं तर मला कोणी तशी ऑफरच दिलेली नाही. मात्र आपण आपले चित्रपट हे विदेशी प्रेक्षकांना नजरेसमोर ठेवुन करावेत या विचारांचा मी आहे. तसेच मला ज्या प्रकारची भुमिका करायला आवडेल तशी भुमिका समोर आली तर नक्कीच करेन. 

तुमचा प्रेक्षकवर्ग हा सगळ्या वयोगटात पसरला आहे. तुमच्या अभिनयाची कॉपी करणारेही अनेक जण आहेत. या सगळ्यांना समोर ठेवुन अभिनय प्रशिक्षण संस्था काढायचा विचार आहे काय...

माझ्या अनेक स्वप्नांपैकी ते माझं एक स्वप्न आहे. आपल्याकडे व्यावसायिक अभिनय संस्था नाहीत ती कमी भरुन काढण्यासाठी मी तशी संस्था काढण्यासाठी मी प्रयत्न करेन. तसेच विदेशी अभिनय पध्दती आणि स्क्रीप्ट या दोन बाबतित आपण सशक्त नाहीत ती बाजु मजबुत करण्याचा माझा प्रयत्न राहील. भारतीय सिनेमाला चांगले दिवस आणायचे असतील तर आपल्याला या दोन उणीवा भरुन काढाव्या लागतील.

वेगवगळ्याक्षेत्रात तुम्ही यशस्वी आहात त्या बाबत तुम्हाला कधी प्रेशर येतं काय...

कोळश्याचा जर हिरा व्हायला हवा असेल तर प्रेशर हे आवशकच आहे असं मला वाटतं. आणि ते तुम्हाला समजायचे असेल तर तमचे शिक्षण हवे. कठोर मेहनत करावी लागली तरी तुम्ही हिम्मत गमावुन बसु नका हे मी अनुभवाने सांगेन.

तुमच्या मुलांनी याचक्षेत्रात यायचे ठरवले आहे काय...

माझ्या आईवडीलांनी, मी काय करावे यावर स्वताचे विचार कधीच थोपले नाहीत. त्यामुळे मी माझ्या मुलांवरही ते विचार थोपणार नाही. मला वाटतं याक्षेत्रात उत्तराधिकारी नेमण्याची गरज नाही.

फॅन या चित्रपटाबद्दल बोलता, तुम्ही कोणाचे फॅन आहात...

(हसुन) मी कोणाचाही फॅन होण्याआधि स्टार झालो.... मात्र आरयन खन्ना आणि गौरव यांच्यात तिच तफावत पहायला मिळेल. माझ्या चित्रपटातील काही दृष्ये आम्ही त्या चित्रपटात रिक्रेट केली आहेत. ऐक अभिनेता म्हणुन माझ्याबद्दल दिग्दशक म्हणुन मनिष शर्मा याला काय वाटते ते तो माझ्याकडुन फॅनसाठी करवुन घेतोय.

आत्मचरित्र लिहीण्याचा काही विचार आहे काय...

माझ्या आयुष्यात अनेक व्यक्ती आल्यात ज्यांच्यामुळे मी घडलो हे खरं आहे. मात्र ज्या दिवशी मला काम मिळणार नाही त्या दिवशी मी ते लिहायला घेईन.

मिडीयाबरोबर दरवर्षी घरी वाढदिवस साजरा करणारया शाहरुखने, ताज ऐन्डमध्ये पत्रकार परिषद आयोजित केली होती. त्यामागे, या पत्रकार परिषदेची दृष्ये मनिष शर्मा दिग्दर्शित फॅन या चित्रपटात दिसणार आहेत म्हणे. असो, शाहरुखबरोबर चर्चा करण्यासाठी त्याचे घर काय किंवा घराबाहेरची जागा काय.....काय फरक पडतो....तुम्हाला काय वाटते....

New Delhi, November 3, 2015: The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) today announced a stellar lineup of International Competition, Indian Panorama films and Juries for its 46th edition to be held in Goa from November 20 to 30 2015. The film festival will showcase 187 films from 89 countries in World Cinema section along with 26 Feature and 21 Non-Feature films in Indian Panorama section.

Addressing the curtain raiser press conference, Shri.Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Minister, I&B, Finance & Corporate Affairs said, “The Kingdom of Spain is the focus country of IFFI 2015.The films of master Spanish filmmakers Carlos Saura and Pedro Almadovar along with contemporary filmmakers like Alejandro Amenabar will be screened at the festival. The section will also feature Spanish actress Leticia Dolera’s directorial debut ‘Requirements to Be a Normal Person.’ ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’ written and directed by Matthew Brown would be the opening film of IFFI 2015. Mr. Anil Kapoor will be the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony. The International Competition will have 15 films including two films from Indian Panorama section. The jury for International Competition includes Chairperson Mr. Shekhar Kapur along with Mr. Michael Radford, Ms. Julia Jentsch, Suha Arraf and Mr. Jeon Kyu-Hwan.”

In another pioneering step, IFFI in collaboration with the International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT), Paris and UNESCO will be presenting the “ICFT- UNESCO Fellini Prize” to a film which reflects the ideals of peace, tolerance, non-violence and friendship promoted by the UNESCO. IFFI 2015 will also be conducting a special seminar on Film and Cultural diversity.

Announcing the Indian Panorama, the Honorable Minister stated that the section will have a confluence of remarkable films from different languages and states. The 13-member Feature Jury was headed by Chairperson, Aribam Syam Sharma while the 7-member Non-Feature jury was led by Chairperson, Rajendra Janglay.

The section Focus on North East Cinema has emerged as a great platform to showcase the best of films and filmmakers from the region to the world. This year, the section will have a Special Retrospective on Aribam Syam Sharma, the eminent filmmaker, actor and music composer from Manipur along with a unique segment featuring next generation filmmakers from North East.

Commencing a special feature this year, the festival in association with the Oscar Academy will organize master classes with eminent Academy members Mark Mangini, Milt Shefter and Humphrey Dixon on varied topics like sound designing, film archive and film editing.

The film festival will also screen some of the outstanding directorial debuts of 2015 in a newly introduced segment- ‘First Cut’. The section would feature emerging filmmakers including Brian Perkins (Film - Golden Kingdom, USA), Michael Klette (Film - Solness, Germany) and Piotr Chrzan (Film – Moskvich-My Love, Poland) among others.

In a special series titled ‘In Conversation’, the Indian filmmakers Shyam Benegal, Vettrimaran, Kaushik Ganguli and Anand L Rai will be present to discuss films and the art of filmmaking with the audience. Additionally, IFFI 2015 will feature a special section ‘World Cinema Restored Classics’ to highlight the idea of film restoration. The Film festival will also feature a package of classics to put spotlight on National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM).

Concluding the press conference, Shri Arun Jaitley said, “The International Film Festival of India has become a common platform to celebrate the excellence of filmmaking and appreciate the film cultures of different nations. Today, the festival has grown as one of the biggest film festivals in Asia and with each edition; it is creating new benchmarks of success all over the world. The festival has gained huge popularity amongst the global cinema lovers and the world is eagerly waiting for the IFFI 2015.”

Among other government officials and delegates present at press conference were Shri. Laxmikant Parsekar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Col. Swara Bhaskar to host Doordarshan’s Rangoli

Swara Bhaskar is all set to add another feather to her cap, as she turns host for the most popular and longest running music show on television, Rangoli that airs on Doordarshan.

The versatile actress, who has previously anchored filmmaker Shyam Benegal’s show Samvidhaan on Rajya Sabha TV, has been recently approached to host the revamped version of the melodious show Rangoli that airs on DD National every Sunday since decades. The show has been earlier hosted by veteran actresses including Hema Malini and Sharmila Tagore.

A source says, “The makers of the musical show have decided to revamp Rangoli to target the youth. Swara has a huge fan following among the youth and she’s known for voicing her opinion on several issues affecting the society.”

“Also, Swara’s hold on Hindi language is also considered one of the major reasons why the makers approached her for their revamped version of Rangoli,” the source adds.

Swara confirms, “I was both honoured and excited when I was offered the iconic show on DD. It has been decades that Rangoli is on air and it has a huge fan following too which has made it come so far, and it seems that for many more years this show will entertain the audience. Rangoli is a fantastic show and I still remember the time when I used to watch the show during my childhood days and seeing myself as a host for the same makes me feel very happy.”

Though Swara has been offered daily soaps in the past, she has always had her hands full with film commitments. “Television is a potent medium that reaches a far wider audience than films do, so it’s a great platform for actors to gain visibility. DD despite considered a less-glamorous channel than the private ones, still has the largest audience footprint in the country,” Swara adds.
