AJAY DEVGN FLIES HIGH IN 'RUNWAY-34
He sails through the hotel lobby of a suburban five star hotel dressed in black to kill, with a lot of fuzz and settles down to spar with the journos who are clearly in awe of the superstar. Over to Ajay who
settles down after lighting his cigarette.
Is it difficult to act in and direct the same film?
Yes.Sort of. Directing the shoot calls for a lot of meticulous planning and camerawork but acting is much more easier than direction but we had the complete script ready beforehand and my esteemed
co-stars like Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and the young firebrand actor Rakul Preet Singh were already experienced as Rakul has acted in more than 30 Telugu films and with me in De De Pyaar De and Big B has acted with me in films like Khakee, Major Saab, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiy on ands I have seen him since my childhood and he always makes his co-stars comfortable and is so professional that he arrives on the sets two hours before the scheduled shoot. And we had a lot of workshops done inside a stationery cockpit to understand the technicalities of air flying and we had a professional air pilot to guide us through. Even Rakul has done a fantastic job.
What is Runway 34 all about?
Its a first aviation thriller ever to be shot in India. Inspired by true incidents, "Runway 34" revolves around Captain Vikrant Khanna played by me , a flying prodigy, whose flight takes a mysterious
course after take-off from an international destination but he becomes a hero after saving a lot of passengers and his co-pilot played by Rakul Preet Singh.
The film was earlier titled as Mayday.
Yes. But majority of masses couldn't understand the word Mayday as it is the last SOS call and considered it as something different. So wehad to change the title.
Is there any scope for music?
Not much. There are only two songs in the background in the film.
What do you look for in a film before taking it on?
The story, script and screenplay of the film.
Whats next on the anvil for you?
I have Drishyam-2, Maidaan, Bhola, etc.
On that note he glides through to another set of journalists waiting for him.
