Vishesh Bhatt and Usha Laxman take the works of RK Laxman (The Common Man) Digital

Vishesh Bhatt is all set to produce a web series based on R K Laxman’s Book “Servants Of India”. This book is a combination of work of fiction and a few incidents Laxman experienced himself. The story of various characters with his special twist will be something to look out for.

Recently *PM Narendra Modi* in Mumbai said that he was happy to see the works of RK Laxman be brought into the digital world. He was really happy to see RK Laxman's family and Vishesh Bhatt taking this idea forward.

*RK IPR MANAGEMENT PVT LTD,* a company founded by R.K. Laxman, believes in Vishesh Bhatt and his work. They have entrusted it to him with complete freedom as they think that he will give his work a young view by keeping the spirit and brilliance of R K Laxman alive.

The digital audience will experience a social commentary and satire of RK Laxman brought on screen by the best contemporary team of talent.

In this series every character has a certain idiosyncrasy and Laxman has used his trademark wit to fictionalise real world people into characters with gripping twists. Vishesh Bhatt visions to adapt the characters with a new age and quirky treatment, something he's sure Laxman would have appreciated.

R.K.Laxman found this world to be vulnerable and also strange at times. It would be interesting to watch the eccentricity of ‘Servants of India’ brought to life with this series. This will be the first time that his work will be turned into a web series.

This book has some unpublished material that will also be seen for the first time adapted in this series.

It would be a satirical drama on the casual class prejudices we all have in India, punched with the gripping absurdity of situations that have occurred in many of our own lives or with our friends. It will get you addicted.

Tannishtha Chatterjee's 'Roam Rome Mein' to release next year

Tannishtha Chatterjee who has acted in several Indian and International films, debuts as a director with the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer 'Roam Rome Mein', which is set to hit the theater next year, 2019.

The film is shot across Rome, the movie also features Italian actress Valentina Corti, Francesco Apolloni and Andrea Scarduzio. The film is produced by Eros Entertainment and Rising Star Entertainment.

Armaan Malik completes a hat-trick by singing his third number for Emraan Hashmi, after two chartbusters


After “Daaru Wargi”, the explosive promotional number with Guru Randhawa, the producers of “Cheat India” are set to reveal “Dil Mein Ho Tum”, the first potential chartbuster from the film, on 26th December.


The quintessential romantic track, a song genre that’s popularly associated with Hashmi, is a re-composition of the epic Bappi Lahiri number in the Vinod Khanna-Anita Raj starrer “Satyamev Jayate” (1987). This was, in turn, based on Bappi da’s legendary Bengali track, “Chirodini”,  rendered by Kishore Kumar in “Amar Sangi” (1986).


32 years later, Rochak Kohli has re-composed the track retaining just the original hook. It has been written by Manoj Muntashir, and rendered by Armaan Malik, whose previous tracks for Hashmi, “Bol Do Na Zara” and “Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon” were colossal hits. In the film (and song), Hashmi has been paired opposite debutant Shreya Dhanwanthary.


Said Bhushan Kumar, “Emraan, Armaan and romance are a winning combination. This is not just another recreation. Rochak (Kohli) has beautifully recomposed the original in a contemporary manner giving it a major shelf life. Fans of romantic melodies are going to love it!”


Said Armaan Malik, “I am excited to be collaborating with Rochak for the first time. Emraan and I come together for the third time after two hits. Interestingly, most of my recreations have been Kishore da’s songs, so whenever I sing a new version of his songs I feel like his blessings are upon me. I have fond memories of this track. When I was a contestant at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Bappi da would keep humming this song and somewhere it has stayed with me ever since.”


“Cheat India” has been produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar’s Ellipsis Entertainment, and Parveen Hashmi’s Emraan Hashmi Films. It releases worldwide on January 25, 2019.

Danny Denzongpa to play Ghaus Khan in Manikarnika

Danny Denzongpa will be seen playing Ghaus Khan in Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika !

Now he will be seen in the film ‘’Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’’ portraying the character of Ghaus Khan who would be the commander of Manikarnika’s army and like a father figure to Rani LaxmiBai in the movie where Kangana Ranaut who would be playing the titular role of Rani LaxmiBai in the film would fondly call him 'Ghaus Baba'.

Jisshu SenGupta looks like a royal king as Maharaja Gangadhar Rao in Manikarnika

Actor Jisshu Sengupta who has impressed the critics and audiences with his acting and performance in Raees (2016), is all set to portray the character of Rani Lakshmibai’s husband Maharaja Gangadhar Rao in Kangana Ranaut starrer historical biopic period drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The movie showcases the entire story and life of our country’s first only female warrior queen Rani LaxmiBai which will be played by national award winning actress Kangana Ranaut and how it symbolizes her braveness and valour for our country’s freedom even today.

The actor who has always dabbled his hands and experimented in his roles right from playing a vicious dacoit in Srijit Mukherjee’s RajKahini to a half-naked sadhu in Srijit Mukherjee’s Ek Je Chhilo Raja (EJCR) surely looks magnificent as a king in the film.

Actor Jisshu Sengupta’s look as royal king Maharaja Gangadhar Rao is out and he literally looks every bit of magnificent and imperial in it.

Jisshu’s character in Manikarnika is one of the lesser known kings of his era and time and had immense interest for performing in arts, theatre and music. He was also very liberal and a loving husband who always was supportive towards Manikarnika and gave unconditional moral support to especially her warrior side.

To profess his love for his wife Manikarnika, he had built the largest library of that time in India inside the palace because Manikarnika loved reading books.

According to Jisshu, it was exciting and challenging for him to portray this role. ‘’Every aspect of shooting has been special for me. I was essaying the character of a Sadhu in Srijit’s EJCR and also a king in Manikarnika. It was hard to keep switching roles. But when it comes to Gangadhar, I enjoyed the depiction. It feels good when mainstream cinema acknowledges regional actors like me for roles that are generally played by more commercial Bollywood actors’’, the actor told us.

Produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti, the film also marks the big transition and bollywood debut of TV sensation Ankita Lokhande who will be seen portraying the character of JhalkariBai who is queen’s closest aide and confidant in the film.

There’s a stellar ensemble cast that includes Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope, Suresh Oberoi as Bajirao 2, and Danny Denzongpa as Ghulam Ghaus Khan among others. The film is scheduled to release on January 25th 2019 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu simultaneously.

माहिती आणि प्रसारण मंत्रालय 49 व्या भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवाची गोव्यात शानदार सुरुवात

भारतीय संस्कृतीचे चित्रमय दर्शन, चित्रपटाची दृश्ये आणि करण जोहर- अक्षय कुमार यांच्या खुमासदार संभाषणाने रंगला “इफ्फी 2018” चा उद्‌घाटन सोहळा

चित्रपट रसिक ज्याची आतुरतेने वाट बघत असतात असा प्रतिष्ठित भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सव इफ्फी 2018 चे आज दिमाखदार सोहळ्यात पणजी येथे उद्‌घाटन झाले.

केंद्रीय माहिती आणि प्रसारण राज्यमंत्री कर्नल राज्यवर्धन सिंह राठोड आणि गोव्याच्या गव्हर्नर मृदुला सिन्हा यांच्यासह अनेक मान्यवरांच्या उपस्थितीत दीप प्रज्वलनाने या महोत्सवाचे उद्‌घाटन झाले. इफ्फीचे हे 49 वे वर्ष असून या कार्यक्रमाची शोभा वाढवण्यासाठी अनेक मान्यवरांसह चित्रपट सृष्टीतल्या अनेक दिग्गजांनी सोहळ्याला हजेरी लावली होती.

भारतातल्या युवकांमध्ये प्रचंड गुणवत्ता दडलेली असून इफ्फीसारखे महोत्सव युवकांमधल्या गुणवत्तेला आणि कौशल्याला वाव देणारे उत्तम व्यासपीठ आहे असे मत केंद्रीय माहिती आणि प्रसारण राज्यमंत्री कर्नल राज्यवर्धन सिंह राठोड यांनी  इफ्फीदरम्यान व्यक्त केले. या महोत्सवामुळे आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावरच्या चित्रपट निर्माते आणि दिग्दर्शकांनाही भारतीय चित्रपटसृष्टी जवळून बघण्याची संधी मिळते तसेच भारतीय कलावंतानांही जागतिक चित्रपटसृष्टीचा परिचय होतो असे ते पुढे म्हणाले.

गोव्याच्या राज्यपाल मृदुला सिन्हा यांनी इफ्फीसाठी आलेल्या सर्व मान्यवरांचे गोवा सरकारच्या वतीने स्वागत केले. गोव्याचे सार्वजनिक मंत्री सुदिन ढवळीकर यांनी आपल्या भाषणात आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट निर्मात्यांना चित्रपट निर्मितीसाठी गोव्यात येण्याचे आमंत्रण दिले.

माहिती आणि प्रसारण मंत्रालयाचे सचिव अमित खरे यांनी स्वागतपर भाषणात सांगितले की, मनोरंजन क्षेत्राच्या विकासाचा वेग 27 टक्के असून या क्षेत्रामुळे महसूल आणि विविध माध्यमांतर्गत रोजगार निर्मिती होत असते. त्यांनी 49 व्या आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवाचा इस्रायल हा भागीदार देश असून यावर्षी झारखंड हे विशेष राज्य म्हणून निश्चित केले आहे. त्यांनी सांगितले की, चित्रपट महोत्सवाद्वारे जागतिक पातळीवरील विविध चित्रपटांचे चांगले संदेश समाजापर्यंत पोहचले जातात. त्यांनी प्रामुख्याने ‘टॉयलेट-एक प्रेम कथा’ आणि ‘पॅडमॅन’ या चित्रपटांची नांवे घेतली.

या उद्‌घाटन सोहळ्यात चित्रपट सुविधा कार्यालयाच्या (फिल्म फॅसिलीटेशन ऑफिस) वेब पोर्टलचं कर्नल राज्यवर्धन राठोड यांच्या हस्ते उद्‌घाटन करण्यात आले. 2014 साली एनएफडीसीने हे कार्यालय सुरु केले असून याद्वारे भारतात चित्रीकरण करण्यासाठी उत्सुक असलेल्या परदेशी चित्रपट निर्मात्यांना विविध परवानग्या आणि सेवा सहज उपलब्ध होतात. विविध राज्यांमध्येही चित्रपट सुविधा कार्यालये सुरु करण्यात आली असून त्यातून चित्रपट निर्मात्यांना चित्रीकरणाची प्रक्रिया, चित्रीकरणासाठी स्थळं शोधण्यात सहकार्य तसेच चित्रपटांसाठी दिली जाणारी अनुदानं, सवलती यांची माहिती या कार्यालयात दिली जाते. ही सर्व माहिती आता पोर्टलवरही उपलब्ध असेल.

‘द अस्पर्न पेपर्स’ या चित्रपटाच्या वर्ल्ड प्रिमियरने महोत्सवाचे उद्‌घाटन झाले. या चित्रपटाच्या कलाकारांसह चित्रपटाचा चमू यावेळी उपस्थित होता.

गायिका शिल्पा रावने विविध भाषांमधील सुमधुर गीतं सादर केली. त्यानंतर मुंबईच्या आदिती देशपांडे यांच्या चमूने फ्लाय जिमनॅस्टिकच्या चित्तवेधक मुद्रा सादर केल्या.

त्यानंतर चित्रपट निर्माता दिग्दर्शक करण जोहर यांनी राज्यवर्धन राठोड आणि अभिनेता अक्षय कुमार यांच्याशी अनौपचारिक गप्पा मारल्या. या तिघांनीही यावेळी इफ्फी, चित्रपट क्षेत्र, क्रीडा क्षेत्र आणि चित्रपटातून दिले जाणारे सामाजिक संदेश अशा विषयावर रंजक शब्दात आपली मतं मांडली.

एखाद्या देशातल्या सर्वोत्कृष्ट कलाकृती आणि त्या देशाचे योगदान दर्शवणाऱ्या चित्रपटांचा ‘कंट्री ऑफ फोकस’ मध्ये समावेश केला जातो. 49 व्या इफ्फीमध्ये इस्रायल हा देश कंट्री ऑफ फोकस राहणार आहे. मुंबईतील इस्रायलच्या वाणिज्य दुतावासाच्या सहकार्याने दहा चित्रपटांना  कंट्री फोकस पॅकेजसाठी निवडले गेले आहेत.

इफ्फी 2018 मध्ये भारताच्या एका राज्यावर आणि त्यातल्या कला आणि संस्कृतीवर प्रकाश टाकणाऱ्या चित्रपटांचा ‘स्टेट फोकस’ या विभागाअंतर्गत प्रथमच समावेश करण्यात आला आहे. 49 व्या इफ्फीमध्ये ‘स्टेट ऑफ फोकस’ म्हणून झारखंड या राज्याची निवड करण्यात आली असून महोत्सवाचा भाग म्हणून 24 नोव्हेंबरला झारखंड दिन साजरा करण्यात येणार आहे. झारखंडला मनोरंजन क्षेत्राचे केंद्र म्हणून विकसित करण्यासाठी तिथल्या सरकारने अनेक योजना राबवल्या असून झारखंडमध्ये चित्रीकरण करण्यावर अनेक सवलती तसेच अनुदानही दिले जाणार आहेत, अशी माहिती झारखंडचे मुख्यमंत्री रघुवर दास यांनी यावेळी आपल्या संदेशात दिली. झारखंड पॅकेजमधील चित्रपटांमध्ये ‘एम एस धोनी-द अनटोल्ड स्टोरी’, ‘डेथ इन गंज’, ‘रांची डायरी’, ‘बेगम जान’ यांचा समावेश आहे.

चित्रपट सृष्टीत लोकप्रिय असलेल्या या सोहळ्यासाठी अनेक सिनेकलावंतही आवर्जून उपस्थित होते. अक्षय कुमार, करण जोहर, बोनी कपूर, सुभाष घई, रमेश सिप्पी, मधुर भांडारकर, ऋषिता भट, फ्रेंच दिग्दर्शक ज्युलियन लिन्सेड आणि सिंगापूरचे चीन यान असे नामवंत यावेळी उपस्थित होते. अभिनेत्री मंदीरा बेदी आणि अमित साध यांनी आपल्या रंजक शैलीत उद्‌घाटन सोहळ्याचे सूत्रसंचालन केले. इफ्फीचे संचालक चैतन्य प्रसाद यांनी मान्यवरांचे आभार मानले.

आजपासून सुरु झालेल्या 49 व्या भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवाची पणजी येथे 28 नोव्हेंबरला ‘सिल्ड लिप्स’ या जर्मन चित्रपटाच्या वर्ल्ड प्रिमियरने इफ्फी 2018 ची सांगता होईल.

पार्श्वभूमी :-

49 व्या इफ्फीत अलिकडच्या काळातल्या सर्वोत्तम आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपटांची पर्वणी रसिकांना अनुभवता येणार आहे. रेट्रोस्पेक्टिव्ह, मास्टर क्लास, इन कनर्व्हसेशन सेशन्स, होमेज, इंडियन पॅनोरमा, इंटरनॅशनल कॉम्पिटेशन यासारख्या विशेष विभागात मागच्या काळातले उत्तम जागतिक चित्रपट पाहायला मिळणार आहेत. सृजनशील मनाच्या युवकांना संवाद साधण्यासाठी, अनुभवण्यासाठी आणि शिकण्यासाठी मंच मिळावा हा याचा उद्देश आहे.

वैविध्यपूर्ण विषय हाताळणारे चित्रपट या महोत्सवात सादर होणार आहेत.  इफ्फी 2018 मध्ये 68 देशातले 212 चित्रपट दाखवण्यात येणार असून यामध्ये दोन वर्ल्ड प्रिमियर, 16 ॲकॅडमी ॲवार्डसाठी नामनिर्देशित चित्रपट आणि  प्रचलित नसलेल्या भारतीय भाषेतल्या सहा चित्रपटांचा यात समावेश आहे. आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्पर्धा विभागात 15 चित्रपटांचा समावेश असून यातले तीन भारतीय चित्रपट सुवर्ण आणि रौप्य मयुरासाठीच्या स्पर्धेत आहेत. या विभागात 22 देशातले निर्मिती आणि सहनिर्मिती केलेले चित्रपट आहेत. पोलिश निर्देशक रॉबर्ट ग्लिन्सकी यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखालच्या आंतरराष्ट्रीय  स्पर्धा ज्युरी मंडळात अॅड्रियन सितारू, अ‍ॅना फेरायोलिओ रॅवेल, टॉम फिट्ज पॅट्रिक आणि भारतीय सदस्य राकेश ओमप्रकाश मेहरा यांचा समावेश आहे.

यावर्षी इफ्फीने इंटरनॅशनल कॉन्सिल फॉर फिल्म, ऑडिओ व्हिज्युअल कम्युनिकेशन (आयसीएफटी) पॅरिस बरोबर, विशेष आयसीएफटी पारितोषिक सादर करण्यासाठी समन्वय साधला असून युनेस्कोच्या आदर्शांना प्रोत्साहन देणाऱ्या चित्रपटाला युनेस्को गांधी पारितोषिकाने गौरवण्यात येणार असून याचा आयसीएफटी पारितोषिकात समावेश आहे. यावर्षी या पारितोषिकासाठी 10 चित्रपटांमधून निवड करण्यात येणार असून यामध्ये दोन भारतीय चित्रपटांचा समावेश आहे.

'होमेजेस्' विभागाअंतर्गत हिंदी चित्रपट क्षेत्रातील दिवंगत व्यक्तींना श्रद्धांजली वाहिली जाईल.  यावर्षी शशी कपूर, श्रीदेवी,  एम. करुणानिधी व चित्रपट निर्मात्या कल्पना लाजमी यांचे चित्रपट दाखवून त्यांना श्रद्धांजली अर्पण करण्यात येईल.

49 व्या भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवात इंडियन पॅनोरमा 2018 मध्ये फिचर (कथाधारित) आणि नॉन-फीचर (कथाबाह्य) चित्रपट दाखवण्यात येणार आहेत. फीचर फिल्म ज्यूरींनी शाजी एन. करुण दिग्दर्शित चित्रपट 'ओलू' भारतीय पॅनोरामा 2018 विभागाच्या शुभारंभाचा चित्रपट म्हणून निवडला आहे तर कथाबाह्य चित्रपट म्हणून आदित्य सुहास जांभळे यांनी दिग्दर्शित केलेल्या 'खर्वस' या चित्रपटाची निवड करण्यात आली आहे.

Fox Star Studios and Akshay Kumar partner for slate of 3 films

The synergy will see an array of distinct entertainers over 3 titles with Akshay Kumar in the lead, to be jointly produced by Fox Star Studios and Cape Of Good Films. The first film to come off this partnership will be India’s first space film, Mission Mangal, which is in collaboration with R Balki & the film will be directed by Jagan Shakti. The shoot for Mission Mangal commences in mid November.

Commenting on the association, Akshay Kumar said “I am delighted to find a new creative partner in Fox Star Studios and am looking forward to creating a collaboration that will deliver a meaningful and entertaining cinematic experience. South superstar and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan took a train journey from Vijayawada to Tuni in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district, meeting lakhs of followers along the way.

The purpose behind this journey was to have a series of interactions and meetings with people representing various sections in the society. Throughout the way, Pawan Kalyan met and discussed issues with the locals, including mango farmers, sugarcane farmers, textile labourers, porters and many others.

“It initiative was taken primarily to understand the issues on the ground and create awareness,” says Kalyan. “Our main aim is to have transparency in the system and work. We will make institutional change in the state,” he adds.

The train journey was symbolic in a way – it gave Pawan Kalyan the opportunity to reach out to the people. The journey ended in Tuni where lakhs of fans and followers had assembled to witness Pawan Kalyan address a public meeting.

The teaser of the much talked about movie Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi was released recently for the public. The movie stars Kangana Ranaut in the leading role and it is a biopic made on the life of Rani Lakshmibai. The teaser has managed to get massive response from the users. It has managed to garner for 20 million views in less than 48 hours. People have shared getting goose bumps after watching the teaser.

While talking to a leading news channel the producer of the movie Kamal Jain shared that Manikarnika is an extraordinary film. He also shared that they are very happy that the teaser has been appreciated by one and all. He said, “The team has worked very hard for this project especially Kangana Ranuat”.

The makers of the movie had to face a lot of challenges to ensure that the movie gets made and releases on the set date of January 25. To help the team achieve this mammoth target, Kangana Ranaut also had to step in to the director’s role to finish the patchwork of the movie. Talking on that, Kamal Jain said, “I have always maintained that Kangana is a very hard working actress. I have never seen anyone more dedicated for a project than her. She is looking splendid in the teaser and it is hard to take your eyes off her. Even in real life, she is a very exceptional human being. She is Rani Lakshmibai in real life too and it is thanks to her that we all got the privilege to be a part of beautiful film like Manikarnika”.

Manikarnika is produced by Zee Studious and Kamal Jain and it also stars Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Zeeshan Ayyub, Danny Dengzongpa, Atul Kulkarni and Taher Shabbir in pivotal roles.

NTR biopic to clash with Kangana Ranauts Manikarnika

Director Krish set to clash NTR biopic with Kangana Ranauts Manikarnika

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is a magnum opus dedicated on the life of Rani Lakshmibai. The movie had run into several challenges including unavailability of director Krish. The director had moved on to direct a biopic on NTR, who is star and former chief minister of Andra Pradesh.

Left with no choice, Kangana Ranaut decided to step in the director's shoot to finish the patchwork and reshoot certain portions of Manikarnika. However, Krish it seems is trying to outbeat Kangana and release the first part of the biopic on January 9 and the second part on January 24.

Manikarnika on the other hand will be releasing on January 25. So both the movies directed by Krish will be clashing. What is really ironic is all this is that the release date announcement for NTR biopic has come just 2 days after Manikarnika's teaser was launched.

While most actors and directors don't like clashing their own movies, it is very strange and unprofessional of Krish to have taken this route. Kangana on the other hand has shown full professionalism by first working round the clock to finish the movie and make sure it releases on time and then by even refusing to take director's credit.

Hichki to release in Taiwan

Rani Mukerji’s heart-warming and inspiring film Hichki has become a worldwide success story. Given the universal appeal of the film, Hichki has been witnessing a staggered release across the world and now it is set to release in Taiwan on 2nd November. The movie is being re-titled as ‘My Teacher with Hiccups’ for the Taiwanese audiences. The film’s Taiwanese poster also has a motivating thought written on it. Kangana Ranaut : I am Manikarnika's Devotee

Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika's teaser has been recently released and it has become the talk of town. The magnum opus Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, is a biopic on Rani Lakshmibai. It has already received 11 million views in 24 hours since its launch. The actress, who’s currently finishing the shoot for the period drama, is also readying it for a January 25 release next year, as per plans. She is directing the patchwork and a few scenes that need to be reshot (after Sonu Sood opted out and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub stepped in), in the absence of the film’s main helmer Krish. The talented star shares how she has managed to shoot the biopic, despite various challenges.

Featuring Kangana as the fierce Rani Lakshmi Bai, the film’s teaser is high on action and less on dialoguebaazi. The actress reiterates that it was a conscious call on her and the team’s part. She reasons, “It was important to establish the genre and the film’s scale as this biopic can be made as a human story since her tale is extraordinary or as a biopic in Hollywood style like Richard Attenborough’s Gandgi. We decided to make it as an action film and have communicated that through our teaser. It’s not the promo as we have not yet released any dialogues, scenes or storyline.”

It is all about commitments

Once the re-shoot was announced, there were several speculations about the period drama moving from its Republic Day release. But Kangana is working round the clock to ensure the film keeps its date with the audience. She tells us, “We were racing against time. It was my decision to release the teaser on October 2. Everyone raised their eyebrows and were like, ‘Isn’t it too early?’ But I was sure we would make it on time. Then the post-production work on the teaser including the VFX was happening and simultaneously we were shooting in Karjat.” She asserts, “I didn’t want it to be unfinished. Amit Chandra from Trigger Happy, who has cut the teaser, has done a terrific job.”

Challenges, no problems!

Shooting for the war saga has not been an easy task for the three-time National Award winner. Kangana has suffered several mishaps. Ask her if Manikarnika is her most challenging role till date and she agrees, “Yes, it has been the most testing one. Everybody knows that I had a major head injury and got about 16 stitches on my forehead, which is like a permanent sword scar that I carry on my face now,” she laughs, adding, “Many people tell me that the scar complements me.

Kangana says, “Then, I had a ligament tear where I had a plaster for three weeks. Apart from these, I fell off the horse several times and have had other mishaps that haven’t confined me to bed.” So, it’s been the most testing character in terms of the pain and struggle that she (Rani Lakshmibai) has faced in her life. I had to literally live through all of that and then bigger duties came on my shoulders. All of this together became adventurous.”

Although there have been several war-based dramas in the last few years including Bajirao Mastani, Baahubali and Padmaavat, none of them was completely based on a female warrior.   Manikarnika is top-lined by Kangana and Ankita Lokhande (she plays Jhalkaribai). The Queen heroine tells us, “This is a film with one of the biggest budgets coming up next year. Nobody was interested in investing this kind of money in a female-centric flick.”

Norm breaker

Kangana is known for not conforming to industry norms and has emerged as one of the strongest female personalities in Indian cinema today. She points out the blatant sexism that still exists within the patriarchal set-up of the film fraternity, even when it comes to making movies of this stature. “They (the industry folks) can make so many frivolous movies with budgets of  ₹100 crore. But when it comes to making great stories and especially women-centric biopics, the trend hasn’t caught up yet. We really have to give it to my studio (Zee Studios) who has been a norm breaker. It’s in line with the kind of unconventional choices that I make. Kudos to them for funding this kind of a film.”

Stop at nothing

Kangana says she feels ‘fortunate’ that she got to play Jhansi ki Rani on screen. “So many people tried to make it before this. I personally feel that she chose me and I’m playing many parts on this film right now along with so much action and the other duties that have come to me. Sometimes, my friends ask me, ‘Don’t you get tired?’ and I say that I’m just Manikarnika’s slave. I’m nothing but her devotee, following her command. So right now, it’s not the time to think about myself or the comfortable life I had before this. It’s time to think about the film,” she signs off.

Siddharth Roy Kapur re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India

Siddharth Roy Kapur unanimously re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India, at its 64th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai.


Siddharth Roy Kapur has been re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India. He has previously served as the President since January 2017. It was a unanimous decision taken at the first meeting of newly appointed Guild Council on 28th September 2018.

In addition, Sunjoy Waddhwa the eminent television producer has also been elected as the Vice President of the Producers Guild of India. At the same time Priti Shahani and Fazila Allana have been nominated to the Guild Council of Management along with Milan Luthria and Akshaye Widhani who have been included in the Guild Council as Special Invitees.

Kangana won't be taking co directors credit for Manikarnika

Kangana Ranaut turns down the opportunity to take co directors credit for Manikarnika

The teaser of Manikarnika will be launched on October 2 and it has only Krish being credited as the director.There were rumours doing the rounds that suggested Kangana Ranaut would share director credit with Krish for Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, but the Queen of Bollywood has forgone the honour.

While talking to a leading daily, sources have revealed that  Zee Studios offered Kangana the opportunity to be billed as director alongside the South filmmaker but she has politely declined the same. Talking on this a source said, "Kangana re-shot portions of Manikarnika over a 45-day schedule. She did it out of her sheer love for the subject. When the studio asked her if she would take credit for it, she turned down their offer saying that it was her responsibility to ensure the film turns out well."

Sanjay Kapoor Debuts in South

Actor Sanjay Kapoor who was recently in Netflix's Lust Stories and garnered appreciation for his character is all set to make his debut in South. The actor has kicked off work on a film featuring Nikhil Kumar (son of Karnataka's CM - HD Kumaraswamy) and Rachitha Ram.

Sanjay Kapoor recently kicked off shooting for the Kannada film Seetharama Kalyana,  directed by Harsha.

“Harsha had seen some of my recent work and liked it. He approached me for an interesting role in Seetharama Kalyana and I thought why not, it opens up new avenues for me because I’ve never done any regional film,”  where he is shooting in night shifts. “I am in the city for six days, film units in the South work at a fast pace.

On the challenges of mouthing dialogue in another language, Sanjay revealed, “It makes me nostalgic about school days when I would mug up everything for exams. That said, Harsha has been kind enough to not give me long lines to speak upon request. So far, it’s going good, I have my fingers crossed.”

The script is written by Mayank Tewari, who won the Asian Film Awards for the India’s official Oscar’s entry -  Newton; and Vijay Gutte.

Producer Sakett Saawhney is on cloud nine after directing a music video featuring Shantanu Maheshwari and Vrushika Mehta  under the banner of Ekomkar Pictures Pvt. ltd. . The shooting concluded yesterday at spectacular Club/Lounge Hoot in Juhu Mumbai.

The song has been sung by Aditi Singh Sharma and rapper Dahek. The music has been given by Bawa- Gulzar. “Aditi, her team and we have been jamming on creating a series of original singles and music videos. I have assisted in direction in the past and have also directed a short film recently. When we bounced the creative idea of the video to Aditi and team, they suggested that I direct it too,” says Sakett.

Sakett was especially happy when he got to know everyone who was involved in the video. “Shantanu and Vrushika are fantastic dancers and have earlier done a dance-based fiction show. When I heard the song, the idea of casting them clicked and luckily we managed to get them on board,” he says, adding, “Ace DOP Manoj Soni, who has done films like ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Entertainment’ amongst others shot this for us. Mehul-Rahil did an amazing job choreographing it.”

Irrfan Khan’s international bilingual film, No Bed of Roses, heads to the Oscars as the official entry of Bangladesh

Irrfan Khan, who starred in and co-produced prominent Bangladeshi director, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s 2017 drama, Doob: No Bed of Roses, has a reason to celebrate as his bilingual film is a contender in the foreign film category at the Oscars. Selected by the Bangladesh Oscar Committee as the official selection from the Eastern country, the film revolves around the life of a renowned filmmaker who creates a scandal in Bangladesh when he leaves his wife to marry his daughter’s friend. The film premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2017 and is now headed to the 91st Academy Awards, in the Best Foreign Film category.

Irrfan’s spokesperson said, _“Irrfan is extremely happy to hear the news. It is an honour to be recognised by the jury and he is delighted that his film is getting the much deserved acknowledgement at long last.”_

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said, _“Obviously I am happy because No Bed of Roses is representing Bangladesh at the Oscars. I hope the the film would find some love from the Academy voters. As for my collaboration with Irrfan, it would have been impossible to make this film without his involvement as an actor and co-producer! I share a wonderful relation with him, on and off the set. I call him “poet” and he jokingly  corrects me saying "I m a poet with no words"  In this film, he actually expressed so many things with very little help of words and I m glad to have collaborated with one of the finest actors of not just India but globally !!"_

Despite not being in the country, Irrfan has had 2 National and 1 International releases this year which just goes to show that the talented actor is giving back to his audience for all their love and affection and will never fail to entertain his fans with his brilliant work.
