Book written by India’s foremost film archivist PK Nair to be launch

Film Heritage Foundation, the brainchild of filmmaker-archivisShivendra  SingDungarpur , is the only non-government film archive in the country and the only other Indian member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) besides the National Film Archive of India (NFAI).

The organisation will release its second publication Yesterday’s Films For Tomorrow – a compilation of the writings of legendary film archivist, the late P.K.Nair edited by Rajesh Devraj at the hands of its brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan on April 6 in Mumbai. Naseeruddin Shah will read extracts from the book, and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Govind Nihalani, Shyam Benegal and Anurag Kashyap will speak on the occasion.

Shivendra Singh Dungarpur has  earlier made an award-winning documentary ‘Celluloid  Man’ that  pays  tribute to India’s legendary archivist P.K.Nair while celebrating the history of Indian cinema and making a fervent plea for its preservation and restoration. The film won two National Awards and travelled to over fifty festivals around the world including Telluride, New York, Rotterdam, Hong Kong and Shanghai.  This book seems a natural progression to bring to life writings of the man who made a difference in the lives of many of India’s successful film directors.

Enthuses Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, “Yesterday’s Films For Tomorrow is Film Heritage Foundation’s second publication. The earlier one From Darkness Into Light being the first book in India on film preservation and restoration. When Nairsaheb left his personal files, journals and diaries to our foundation, we realized this precious material would make a great book that would archive his words for posterity as well as being a rich source of information for film-lovers, academics, students and researchers. We felt there could be no more fitting tribute to a man who in his lifetime was a living, breathing museum of cinema.”

Avers Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of Film Heritage Foundation, “Yesterday’s Films For Tomorrow is a commendable initiative of Film Heritage Foundation. They are the custodians of the PK Nair archive and by publishing this book they have made this valuable material available to the public. I am very happy to have been invited to release this unique book on cinema written by a person who devoted his life selflessly to saving our film history.”

Adds Naseeruddin Shah who will read excerpts from the book at the launch, “a special book that begins from the magical experience of Nairsaheb watching his first film when he was eight; his incredible efforts in rescuing the early works of Phalke and his obsession for collecting and preserving films for posterity.  I think it is wonderful that Film Heritage Foundation is keeping his memory alive by publishing this book as his contribution to Indian cinema is immense and should not be forgotten.”

Says Vidhu Vinod Chopra, “Whatever I have learnt in cinema, I learnt it from Mr. P.K. Nair. He was the best teacher I ever had. I helped in the production of this book as my debt to Mr Nair's contribution, to my life and to the lives of many such filmmakers.”

Film HeritagFoundation is a not-for-profit  organization   based  in  Mumbai established   i2014. Recognizing the urgent need to preserve Indias cinematic heritage, the foundation is dedicated to supporting the conservation, preservation and restoration of the moving image and to develop interdisciplinary educational programs that will use film as an educational tool and create awareness about the language of cinema.

Adnan Sami creates history at Wembley at his massive sold out concert for the 8thTime in a row

Adnan Sami is the first Indian to perform Eight times at the renowned Wembley Stadium, London and in all eight times the historical arena was sold out… packed to capacity with screaming fans…Elton John, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones and Adnan Sami... Well, what's common amongst them? It's ‘Wembley’!

Gracefully crooning down the pages in history, Adnan broke all records and emerged a winner. The evidence was all there on March 2017 as the audience at the stadium sang, wept and laughed with the singing sensation and kept yearning for more. As the classic Sun Zara… resounded in the air, in a true rock star style (an unknown facet in India), hundreds of flood lights bore down on this 39-year-old Bollywood singer as he made a grand entry and connected instantly with his fans. And then there was a magic spell as he performed solo to a mesmerising crowd for over 3 hours of unforgettable melodies...For a musician, performing at the most iconic venue in the world - Wembley is one of the most fulfilling experiences. Sami’s experience was no less!

The enormous crowd was cheering and singing to Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein and Lift Kara De but they had no idea what Adnan Sami had in store for them. When Sami played the piano and sang Tera Chehra, the awestruck audience screamed and cried and sang this extremely moving piece along with him.

Not only did Sami enthrall the audience with an undeniably beautiful show, he also invited a little girl suffering from terminal illness to watch the concert. He introduced the little girl to the audience and then fulfilled her wish of watching Adnan perform live.

Sami’s melodious voice along with the soulful lyrics of Bhar Do Jholi brought tears in the eyes of the little girl’s mother and left the audience emotional yet captivated. The Wembley show was sold out and a massive success with a huge audience roaring applause for Adnan Sami!

Commenting on the success of the concert, Adnan Sami said, “I am so grateful because the audience in London was so appreciative of my music. It feels so nice when you put your life into creating something and people across the globe give it so much love.”

Sami’s entire UK tour was sold-out & a resounding success. However, an Indian musician performing at Wembley is a matter of great pride! The Wembley Stadium has been graced by legendary musicians like Michael Jackson, Elton John, Rolling Stones and several other extraordinarily talented musicians. Knowing that one of our own, Adnan Sami has performed there, not only makes us proud but also gives us immense happiness!

Chris Pratt and Kurt Russel is the new bromance in Hollywood

With one of the most anticipated superhero ensembles coming together again in James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, in May, along with Baby Groot going viral,  the filming also saw the birth of a new bromance!

Hollywood veteran Kurt Russel, who along with Sylvester Stallone is joining the cast of GOTG, got alon, and he reveals how he got to know about Chris and became friends!
"I’d heard about Chris Pratt from my daughter Kate Hudson, actually. She liked him very much, and they had worked together. So that was how I became interested. I really got the opportunity to work a lot in many different scenes, in many different contexts with Chris Pratt. I gained a lot more from Chris than I think Chris gained from me. But I do hope the stories I told him were fun and maybe in some way enjoyable and enlightening." says Kurt.

Chris on the other hand, was also super-thrilled to be working with Kurt, something that was on his bucket list!" When I found out that Kurt Russell was playing Quill’s father, I was just thrilled. It was like sitting at the poker table with a great hand and then getting another ace dealt to you. It was just perfect casting and it couldn’t have worked out better. On top of the fact that he’s an exceptional actor, he’s also a really great guy. Kurt’s been around for a long time, and he’s been a master of his art form for decades. Having an opportunity to work with someone like that who’s such a genius is a sheer joy and something you can check off the bucket list. He’s a legit stud. He was a professional baseball player. He’s a pilot and the father of many well-adjusted kids. He’s a fisherman and a hunter and an outdoorsman. I asked him if he’d be my dad in real life and I’m still waiting to hear back."

Well, looks like Hollywood has a new bromance!

A couple of weeks later, Marvel sent over a book of concept art and they had this crazy idea that kind of played to the Iron Giant character I played in the beginning of my career. And what sealed the deal for me was when I opened up the giant book of concept art and fell in love with the character Groot. I asked my son which character he thought Daddy should play, and my son, Vincent, who was three at the time, pointed to the tree. And something about that made me feel like it was going to be the perfect match." he says

Riteish Deshmukh Reveals The Secret Behind 16D technology

Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films [YRF], that has been known for clutter-breaking content & innovations, announced yet another first with their next feature film, Bank-Chor. They will become the only studio in the world to release a film theatrically simultaneously in 16D besides Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality formats, where the viewer will also be a part of the film, instead of just watching it.

The film Bank-Chor, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Anand Oberoi and Rhea Chakraborty, is a story of 3 idiots trying to rob a bank... and how they pick the worst day possible to do it. In the past, YRF has been the first to release a film in IMAX with ATMOS sound. Bank-Chor has been designed with the next level of technology and immersive experiences where 16D helps activate all senses for a viewer in terms of touch, sight, hearing, smell, taste and also thought, imagination & feeling. In essence, the film will make you a part of the bank as one of the hostages when the heist is taking place.

All the partner multiplex and exhibition chains are apparently overhauling their screening systems to accommodate the film accordingly, as the film is scheduled to change the entire film viewing experience forever. They are also keeping medical staff on stand-by, as the experience could get too overwhelming for most audiences, who typically use just five senses. Speaking on the same, Riteish Deshmukh said, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this first ever technological innovation in the Indian Film Industry. 3D is so last season, when you have 16D! I’m certain Bank-Chor will steal a lot of hearts but since you can’t take chances, I’m also keeping a 16-day fast and chanting Om Y-Films O Namah 16 times a day… am told it really works!”

Adds Vivek Anand Oberoi, “This is ground-breaking stuff and the first time I experienced it, it really rocked my world. The Bank-Chor gang is going to more than just tickle all your senses with this m-e-n-t-a-l experience. We also consulted famed numerologist from Chinchpokli, Baba Champak Chandrakant Chiplunkar, who advised us on 16th June being the right release date… now there’s no stopping us!”

Bank-Chor is a fun comic thriller directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil. It features music by Shri Sriram, Superbia [Gourov Dasgupta, Roshin Balu & Shaan], Kailash Kher, Rochak Kohli, Baba Sehgal and Shameer Tandon. It is set for release worldwide on 16th June, 2017. We are hopeful at least 16 people will watch the film.
