Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Sonu Nigam talk women empowerment

In the movie Bahubali 2, the character of Amarendra Bahubali played by Prabhas feels that merely chopping off the fingers of a man trying to grope women is not enough punishment. He beheads him as capital punishment. Now that can happen in the make-believe world of movies where things are often glorified and gory-fied. But in a dignified cultured society with better sensibilities, matters have to be drastically different.

And that is exactly what some of our Bollywood stars showcased this month as they spoke fabulously about respect for women and their rights. “Respect and dignity towards women in society, a sense of equality as fellow citizens, as contributors in equal measure, without discrimination, is what needs to be inculcated amongst all of us," said megastar Amitabh Bachchan while answering a question about the Nirbhaya rape case verdict.

Stressing that the true way to measure progress of a society was in empowering women, veteran actress Shabana Azmi remarked, “It isn’t that women should start acting like men or men should start behaving like women. There are differences between women and men, these need to be celebrated by giving them equal importance and opportunity in the society,”

But an unexpected clincher came on India TV from renowned singer Sonu Nigam who was on popular television host Rajat Sharma's famed programme Aap Ki Adalat. Though he was there mainly answering questions about a recent controversy regarding loudspeakers on mosques during azaan prayers, the topic veered to an earlier controversy about 'godwoman' Radhe Maa.

But Sonu stood steadfast answering Rajat Sharma. "No one should utter profanities about a lady. Be it any lady. She could be my sister, or it could be you," the singer commented, looking at the audience. "That's not a done thing in any cultured society and I will stand for any lady who faces unfair comments," Sonu added.

"I haven't met or spoken to Radhe Maa, but I've heard she has been ostracized for her attire. Is attire a barometer to judge whether a person is spiritual or not? If a lady is covered from top to bottom, is she more spiritual person than one who is not? It's wrong to judge any person from that perspective," he concluded.

ALIA BHATT RELEASES RESCUED GREEN SEA TURTLE INTO THE SEA

On Sunday, Alia Bhatt visited the Dahanu Forest Division Office to release ‘Queen’ a rescued green sea turtle, back into the sea. Alia said it was especially moving for her to do this on the occasion of Mothers Day as the turtle was returning to her kids and to mother nature. In India, green sea turtles are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. In the last seven years, the forest department together with a local wildlife rescue organization, Wildlife Conservation and Animal Welfare Association (WCAWA), have rescued and released over 140 sea turtles among other wildlife.

Speaking about the rescue, Alia said ‘Queen was found dehydrated, entangled in a fishing net, her body ridden with leeches. Thanks to the efforts put in by Dr. Dinesh Vinherkar and the team at WCAWA (Wildlife Conservation and Animal Welfare Association), Queen has got a second chance at life. The WCAWA team is working closely with the Dahanu Forest Division Office and the locals to protect wildlife in the region. Each of us must be aware that our actions are affecting the environment. Plastic in our oceans and discarded fishing nets are a potential health hazard to our marine life. We need to start showing compassion, start taking responsibility and start saving our planet. We must coexist flora, fauna, oceans and man- because this planet is not ours alone."

It is with this goal of coexistence between man, animal and nature, that Alia has undertaken an initiative to educate and engage communities into making the world a better place. "Through Coexist, we shall work towards reducing man-animal conflict, by raising awareness . Those who are as passionate about this cause as I am, could visit our facebook page to know more.”

World’s Worst Chors Present World’s Worst Item Song

Last week, the world got introduced to Champak, Genda and Gulab, the stupidest Bank Chors ever. First, their antics made everyone laugh out loud in the Bank Chor trailer, that trended #1 on YouTube for three days, and has cumulatively crossed 10 million across the Y-Films social media platforms within a week. Then, the film’s Imaandaar trailer managed to rake up a social media storm as the three chors gave a hilarious dose of imaandaari that Bollywood’s never seen before.

And now, in the title song of Bank Chor, innovatively titled ‘Hum Hain Bank Chor’, the worst chors ever come together for what is certainly the worst Bollywood item song ever! They dance, gyrate and shake their booties in an attempt to lure the audience into watching the film, falsely proclaiming that they are awesome chors. But the truth about their stupidity is fairly visible all through the song.

Written, composed and sung by Kailash Kher, instead of featuring an A-list Bollywood superstar in the video, the song features the incompetent trio of Champak, Genda and Gulab yet again. Fortunately, the song also features Rhea Chakraborty, who plays a reporter, Gayatri Ganguly in the movie, so there is still something to cheer about.

Says Riteish Deshmukh, “Just like the rest of the film, Hum Hain Bank Chor is also hilarious because in the song, the three idiot chors believe that they’re actually smarter than everybody else. So for a change, it was fun for me to make everyone dance to my tune, because in the rest of the film meri tashreef lagi hui hai!”

Adds composer-lyricist-singer Kailash Kher, “After creating history with iconic songs like Teri Deewani, Saiyaan, Allah Ke Banday, I’m all set to destroy that with Banday Hai Hum BankChor… all on Y-Films doing. Jokes apart, this was really special as it showcases a mad, naughty & fun side of me that not many people have been exposed to. So after soulful sufi comes stupid masti… hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it!”

Self-confessedly India’s STUPIDEST comic thriller, Bank Chor, directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil, is all set to embarrass its makers when it releases in theaters on June 16.
