Siddharth Roy Kapur re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India

Siddharth Roy Kapur unanimously re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India, at its 64th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai.


Siddharth Roy Kapur has been re-elected as the President of the Producers Guild of India. He has previously served as the President since January 2017. It was a unanimous decision taken at the first meeting of newly appointed Guild Council on 28th September 2018.

In addition, Sunjoy Waddhwa the eminent television producer has also been elected as the Vice President of the Producers Guild of India. At the same time Priti Shahani and Fazila Allana have been nominated to the Guild Council of Management along with Milan Luthria and Akshaye Widhani who have been included in the Guild Council as Special Invitees.

Vijay Singh, Manish Goswami and Apoorva Mehta continue to be part of the Guild Management team as Vice Presidents in addition to Ashim Samanta who will also continue as the Treasurer.

As the President, Siddharth Roy Kapur has been the leading voice of the industry over the past two years. The Guild has recently signed key strategic alliances such as the one with United Kingdoms Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television and has engaged with key industry and Government stakeholders successfully.

Kangana won't be taking co directors credit for Manikarnika

Kangana Ranaut turns down the opportunity to take co directors credit for Manikarnika

The teaser of Manikarnika will be launched on October 2 and it has only Krish being credited as the director.There were rumours doing the rounds that suggested Kangana Ranaut would share director credit with Krish for Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, but the Queen of Bollywood has forgone the honour.

While talking to a leading daily, sources have revealed that  Zee Studios offered Kangana the opportunity to be billed as director alongside the South filmmaker but she has politely declined the same. Talking on this a source said, "Kangana re-shot portions of Manikarnika over a 45-day schedule. She did it out of her sheer love for the subject. When the studio asked her if she would take credit for it, she turned down their offer saying that it was her responsibility to ensure the film turns out well."

Manikarnika: The queen of Jhansi will be releasing on January 25, 2019.

Sanjay Kapoor Debuts in South

Actor Sanjay Kapoor who was recently in Netflix's Lust Stories and garnered appreciation for his character is all set to make his debut in South. The actor has kicked off work on a film featuring Nikhil Kumar (son of Karnataka's CM - HD Kumaraswamy) and Rachitha Ram.

Sanjay Kapoor recently kicked off shooting for the Kannada film Seetharama Kalyana,  directed by Harsha.

“Harsha had seen some of my recent work and liked it. He approached me for an interesting role in Seetharama Kalyana and I thought why not, it opens up new avenues for me because I’ve never done any regional film,”  where he is shooting in night shifts. “I am in the city for six days, film units in the South work at a fast pace.

On the challenges of mouthing dialogue in another language, Sanjay revealed, “It makes me nostalgic about school days when I would mug up everything for exams. That said, Harsha has been kind enough to not give me long lines to speak upon request. So far, it’s going good, I have my fingers crossed.”

The script is written by Mayank Tewari, who won the Asian Film Awards for the India’s official Oscar’s entry -  Newton; and Vijay Gutte.

Producer Sakett Saawhney is on cloud nine after directing a music video featuring Shantanu Maheshwari and Vrushika Mehta  under the banner of Ekomkar Pictures Pvt. ltd. . The shooting concluded yesterday at spectacular Club/Lounge Hoot in Juhu Mumbai.

The song has been sung by Aditi Singh Sharma and rapper Dahek. The music has been given by Bawa- Gulzar. “Aditi, her team and we have been jamming on creating a series of original singles and music videos. I have assisted in direction in the past and have also directed a short film recently. When we bounced the creative idea of the video to Aditi and team, they suggested that I direct it too,” says Sakett.

Sakett was especially happy when he got to know everyone who was involved in the video. “Shantanu and Vrushika are fantastic dancers and have earlier done a dance-based fiction show. When I heard the song, the idea of casting them clicked and luckily we managed to get them on board,” he says, adding, “Ace DOP Manoj Soni, who has done films like ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Entertainment’ amongst others shot this for us. Mehul-Rahil did an amazing job choreographing it.”

Irrfan Khan, who starred in and co-produced prominent Bangladeshi director, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s 2017 drama, Doob: No Bed of Roses, has a reason to celebrate as his bilingual film is a contender in the foreign film category at the Oscars. Selected by the Bangladesh Oscar Committee as the official selection from the Eastern country, the film revolves around the life of a renowned filmmaker who creates a scandal in Bangladesh when he leaves his wife to marry his daughter’s friend. The film premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2017 and is now headed to the 91st Academy Awards, in the Best Foreign Film category.

Irrfan’s spokesperson said, _“Irrfan is extremely happy to hear the news. It is an honour to be recognised by the jury and he is delighted that his film is getting the much deserved acknowledgement at long last.”_

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said, _“Obviously I am happy because No Bed of Roses is representing Bangladesh at the Oscars. I hope the the film would find some love from the Academy voters. As for my collaboration with Irrfan, it would have been impossible to make this film without his involvement as an actor and co-producer! I share a wonderful relation with him, on and off the set. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan who is currently enmeshed in the ongoing new season of his popular quiz show, and gearing up for Thugs Of Hindostan, will start shooting for his next film Jhund in November on a non stop schedule in Nagpur.

The thespian will start shooting for Nagraj Manjule's Jhund around mid November after the KBC Season finale, and after the release of the hugely anticipated Thugs Of Hindostan.

Mr Bachchan's look as Khudhabaksh has gone viral and the country is eagerly awaiting seeing him and Aamir onscreen, and with this news of Jhund, his yet another intriguing venture, this is one calendar year of Mr Bachchan to watch out for.

While his role in Jhund has been kept tightly under wraps, we hear that is one of the most charismatic avatars he has played onscreen. Mr Bachchan reportedly plays a professor who channelises the street kids to build a soccer team

The total shoot duration is 70-80 days, Mr Bachchan will shoot for 45 days straight in Nagpur. The kids will be meeting him and doing rehearsals two three days before the shoot. The street kids have undergone training and are now professional actors.

When asked about the shoot in Nagpur and the prep, director Nagraj Manjule said, "I chose the city of Nagpur because the story is based there. I wanted the look and feel to be as authentic as possible and Nagpur has its own unique charm, feel and locales, different from Mumbai and Pune. The language of the film would be best showcased in Nagpur hence I chose the lanes of that city. "

Speaking on Mr Bachchan and working with him he further went on to say, "Working with Mr Bachchan  on a story like this is a dream come true. He has always been my favourite legends and there was nobody other than him who fit the role perfectly and to do justice to this particular character. In fact the other people in the film are all new  and since i have been known to work with fresh talent, I think the combination of Mr Bachchan with this young  team will be something to watch out for!"

Since the time it has been announced, the Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster, Arjun Reddy, has been a major point of discussion. The edgy love story first made waves when the director of the original, Sandeep Vanga, was taken aboard by producer Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series with Krishan Kumar and Cine1 Studios’ Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde to helm the Hindi version as well. After that, the film made headlines when Shahid Kapoor was locked to play the title role. Starring opposite Shahid Kapoor for the first time is Kiara Advani who will essay the role of his love interest.



It’s sheer coincidence and destiny that Kiara was the first to be considered when the director initially started scouting for his heroine. Kiara and Sandeep had even met and discussed the possibility. But later, due to date issues (the film was supposed to go on floors in August earlier), the talks took a bit of a backseat. Now that the film is going on floors in early October, things fell back in place. Early this week, Kiara was signed for the film and the actress has even started her creative meetings with Sandeep Vanga.

प्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शिका कल्पना लाजमी यांचे आज मुंबईत प्रदीर्घ आजारानंतर निधन झाले.

रुदाली, एक पल, दमन, चिंगारी यासारख्या स्त्री सक्त विषय असलेल्या चित्रपटांसाठी त्या प्रसिद्ध होत्या. कल्पना लाजमी या प्रसिद्ध चित्रकार ललिता लाजमी यांच्या कन्या, तर प्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शक गुरूदत यांच्या भाची होत्या. लाजमी यांनी आपल्या कारकिर्दीची सुरुवात प्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शक श्याम बेनेगल यांच्याकडे सहाय्यक म्हणून केली. त्यांच्या दिग्दर्शकीय कारकिर्दीची सुरुवात ही डॉक्युमेंटरी फिल्मेकर म्हणून 1988 साली झाली.

Batla House to release on Independence Day 2019

Bhushan Kumar, Nikkhil Advani and John Abraham’s next ‘Batla House’ poster released; film releases Independence Day 2019

After the massive success of Satyameva Jayate, the team – Bhushan Kumar, Nikkhil Advani and John Abraham come back together for a thriller drama ‘Batla House’. The first look poster of the film was released today. Directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by T-Series, Emmay Entertainment & JA Entertainment in association with Bake My Cake Films, the film will release on 15th August 2019. The film is written by Ritesh Shah.

Keeping its holiday date like this year, John Abraham will portray the role inspired by Sanjeev Kumar Yadav who spearheaded the Batla House encounter. The poster was launched with a day prior build up by the team who launched two teaser posters giving a background of the incident the film is based on. As the tag line says ‘The story of India’s Most Decorated/Controversial Cop’, the case was about this one man who has had 70 encounters, a record 22 convictions from 30 cases and 9 Gallantry Awards. John Abraham says “Being recognized for films like Madras Cafe and Parmanu, I automatically gravitate towards scripts like Batla House, however, that also means that the script needs to live upto those standards. With Batla House, Ritesh blew me over with his precision in the story telling as well as the emotional roller coaster of the characters. I am truly excited to bring this story alive to audiences”

The film that goes on floors by mid-October, is inspired by the real encounter that took place a decade ago on September 19. Nikkhil plans on shooting the film in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Nepal. Speaking about it, Nikkhil adds, “Ritesh, who I have had the wonderful fortune of collaborating with on my life-changing films, D-Day and Airlift, came to me with this incredible story and he has spent a painstaking 4yrs researching, writing and has fashioned a top notch script. I’m so happy that John also recognized the power of this story and agreed to come aboard. Now all I have to do is call action/cut”

Bhushan Kumar says, “Nikkhil is presenting one such incident to the audience that needs to be heard. The posters will give our viewers a brief idea on what the film is and seeing John like this, everyone is definitely intrigued.”

Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films  are set to release PIHU on 28th September 2018. The film is directed by journalist turned national award winning director Vinod Kapri and is an emotionally riveting thriller based on a true story which is sure to intrigue audiences.

This is the first of its kind film to have only a 2 year old protagonist throughout the entire duration of the film. Pihu has received accolades at various international film festivals. Love Sonia all set to go to United Nations

After winning the heart of audiences in London, Melbourne & India, Love Sonia is all set for a special screening at the United Nations in New York on Oct 11, the International Day of the Girl Child. This is the first official screening on US soil and Love Sonia is the film Indian film to be officially invited by the UN for a special screening. The screening will be hosted by the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime and Indian anti-trafficking organization, Apne Aap Women Worldwide.

“Art is a powerful advocacy tool to raise awareness and we hope this beautifully acted thoughtful film will move people to take action against the scourge of sex trafficking.” said Simone Monasebian, Director of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime.

According to the UNODC, human trafficking is the third largest crime in the world, involving billions of dollars and victimizing thousands of people, especially women and children.

Survivors of prostitution from Apne Aap supported and consulted the filmmakers by sharing their life stories with the director and the actors, showing them the red light areas of Kolkata and were on the set during filming.

"Its an honor for us to screen our film Love Sonia for the United Nations. I feel privileged and am looking forward to the screening on the 11th October in New York!” Shared director Tabrez Noorani.

Co-Producer Amar Butala said, “Love Sonia has been winning hearts since the first time we showed the film. And this invite for an Indian film to the UN goes to show that sheer hard work pays off beautifully. Overwhelmed, excited and overjoyed by this special invite from UN for our film.”

"The process has resulted in an authentic film about the horrors of sex-trafficking inspired by real life events. Those who see, Love Sonia, will understand the cruel dynamics of trafficking in its truest form  Apne Aap hopes that all the countries of the world who see Love Sonia at the  UN will  come together to end this evil," said Ruchira Gupta, Founder of Apne Aap.

The screening will be followed by a reception to honour the Love Sonia team. Apne Aap will give The Last Girl award to an undisclosed recipient to be revealed in the next week or so.

Alia Bhatt to be an ambassador for Daan Utsav

Earlier this year, actress and philanthropist Alia Bhatt launched a new initiative ‘Mi Wardrobe is Su Wardrobe’ to share handpicked favourites from her personal closet for charity. The first wardrobe was displayed at the Stylecracker Night Market in Mumbai and proceeds went towards providing eco-friendly solar lamps to economically backward families living in darkness in Kikkeri Karnataka - lighting up their homes and their lives.

Varun learns the art of dyeing clothes for Sui Dhaaga!

Mauji aka Varun Dhawan plays a local tailor from heartland India in YRF's upcoming entertainer Sui Dhaaga – Made in India. A village simpleton, Varun dreams to make a name for himself and puts his talent to good use aiming to become an entrepreneur. To portray this role on screen, Varun ensured that he prepared well. Mauji gets well versed with handloom in the film, and to perfect the same, Varun met with actual handloom workers to learn the art of dyeing fabrics!

“Sui Dhaaga has enabled me to learn such new, amazing skills that I will always cherish. Mauji is an entrepreneur at heart and he passionately wants to realize his dreams. He goes all out to achieve this goal with his wife Mamta. In order to become multi-talented, Mauji has to learn various aspects of weaving and handloom. To become Mauji, I had to learn the art of dyeing fabrics. It was really, really tough,” reveals Varun.

Varun adds, “I learnt dyeing from actual handloom artists in Chanderi. I had a week or so to sit with them, watch them work and learn everything from them. I was sure that before I give the shot I would master their body language and the way they went about the intricate process of dyeing. It’s extremely tough and needs a lot of patience. Thankfully, I had the best teachers who guided me thoroughly.”

A film about finding love and respect through self-reliance, Varun is paired opposite Anushka Sharma who plays an embroiderer in the film. Both champion actors, Varun and Anushka have come together for the first time and are definitely the most-awaited and freshest on-screen jodis of 2018.

Sui Dhagaa's Made in India spirit

Yash Raj Films upcoming movie - Sui Dhaaga Made in India's cast Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma unveiled a unique initiative in association with Fair Trade Forum India today. A one-of-its kind website 'suidhaaga.co.in' has curated and brought together brands which practice fair trade. The intent of the website is to help the artisan community by giving it a platform to reach out to a wider audience while also keeping in mind the 'Made in India' spirit.

Fair Trade Forum-India (FTF-I) is the National Network for Fair Trade in India. It works with more than 200,000 producers - artisans and farmers - through 100 affiliated fair-trade member organisations. It is a Fair-Trade Network of the World Fair Trade Organization (Netherlands), which is the global face of fair trade.

The president of Fair Trade Forum - Iytha Mallikarujna and artisans from Mumbai and Gujarat were also present for today's event.

Varun Dhawan plays an innocent tailor from heartland India in YRF's upcoming entertainer Sui Dhaaga – Made in India. The superstar essays the role of Mauji who dreams to make a name for himself. Rooted in heartland India, the film demanded it to be shot as authentically and as genuinely as possible. Cycle is the most common mode of transportation in small towns and director Sharat Katariya wanted Mauji to have a cycle to enhance the visual appeal of the location and the character.

“Mauji loves his cycle. He takes it everywhere he goes. Cycle is the most preferred transportation option in rural India and we had to include it because the cycle adds so much visual appeal to Mauji’s character. He chills on his cycle, he dreams on his cycle, he laughs, he cries on his cycle. Mauji and Mamta (Anushka Sharma) have some really beautiful moments with each other – bonding, talking and getting to know each other – when they go for the rides together. The cycle captures the beautiful, innocence of small town life and romance,” says Varun.

Anushka adds, 'We were in the peak summers of North India. I had to sit crossed legged on the cycle, which I was not used to. My body twisted the whole time cause I had to sit in a particular way. Sharat had said, never are you guys going to touch each other in the film, but I was somehow  holding the (seat) to save my life. We were sweaty, we were in aches and pains, my back was gone. "

Varun further adds, “We were shooting in the summer heat in Chanderi and Delhi and I was required to sometimes cycle for nearly  10  hours at a stretch. It was tough. I had to ride it daily for about 15 days and I was exhausted. There was a scene of Anushka and I falling down from the cycle. We fell right near the cliff and the crew came running to see if we were ok. For Mauji, the cycle is a symbol of struggle as well as aspiration. It is an invaluable addition to the character sketch of Mauji.”

A film about finding love and respect through self-reliance, Varun and Anushka have been paired for the first time and have become the most-awaited, freshest on-screen jodi of 2018. Sui Dhaaga - Made in India is set to release on September 28 this year. It brings together National Award winning producer-director combo of Maneesh Sharma and Sharat Katariya after their blockbuster Dum Laga Ke Haisha. सप्टेंबर ०७ २०१८, मुंबई: मागील काही वर्षांपासून 'गो ग्रीन' चा संदेश देण्याची प्रथा यंदा ही सुरु ठेवत नाहर ग्रुप ने त्यांच्या 'अवर ग्रीन गणेशा' या इनिशिएटिव्हसाठी मुंबईतील चांदिवली येथे नाहर इंटरनॅशनल स्कुलमध्ये ६ व ७ सप्टेंबर २०१८ रोजी दोन कार्यशाळा आयोजित केले. इको डेकॉर व ग्रीन गणेशा बनविण्यासाठी असणाऱ्या या कार्यशाळेमध्ये नाहरच्या अम्रित शक्ती टाउनशिप मधील २०० रहिवाशी सहभागी झाले होते. पीओपी (प्लास्टर ऑफ पॅरिस) ज्यामुळे विसर्जनानंतर समुद्री जीवांना आणि पर्यावरणाला तीव्र नुकसान होतो, त्याचा वापर न करता शाडू मातीचा वापर करून पर्यावरणपूरक गणपतीची मूर्ती व मखरांची सजावट बनविण्यासाठी लोकांना प्रोत्साहन देण्याच्या उद्देशाने या कार्यशाळांचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते.

The biopic Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi has been surrounded by a lot of controversies of late.

Producer Kamal Jain was now come to clear the air and put an end to all the speculations. He says, “After the last schedule was over, we saw the line up of the film and decided that apart from the patchwork, we also needed a few additional scenes. Once the scenes were written, we approached Kangana for additional dates. But Krish had moved on to his next project by then. Given how driven and creatively involved Kangana Ranaut has been on this project since its inception, we realised she would be the best person to take over the mantle. Hence, there is no hijacking of the project, whatever decisions are being taken are with the full support of the producer and the studio. The additional shoot of the film is presently underway at ND Studios at Karjat, near Mumbai. We have an aggressive production schedule ahead of us since we are committed to release the film on January 25th 2019.

He even took this opportunity to clear the air about the Sonu Sood issue, “While we managed to get matching dates from Danny Denzongpa, Jishu Sengupta, Ankita Lokhande and others, we got stuck on Sonu Sood’s combination dates and continuity look as he has grown a beard for Simba. Hence, we had to let him go, Zeeshan Ayub now plays the character of Sadashiv”.
The patchwork of Manikarnika is going on smoothly.  Nick Powell is also on set designing some mind-blowing action shots to complement what has already been shot earlier. All in all we are in for a treat on January 25, 2019 in the form of Manikarnika.

Krish Jagarlamudi is director of #Manikarnika & will remain so. He's currently fulfilling his unavoidable commitments with another project and so #KanganaRanaut has stepped in to shoot patchwork on his behalf. The team of Manikarnika wants the movie to release on 25th January 2019 and to make sure that happens Kangana had to step in to do the patchwork, which she is doing very dedicatedly. There is no truth in rumours of miff between Kangana and Krish. The clapboard is used only to avoid any confusion on the sets and there should not be much made out of the same.

In Hollywood it is a common practice for actors to also step in the shoes of director if the situation demands. For example in the hit series Friends 10 episodes were directed by David Schwimmer who played Ross, despite the original director

James Burrows being present.

Actors usually explore the places they are shooting their movies in and look for interesting things to do. However, the options are few when they are shooting in distants small towns. Like it was for the Batti Gul Meter Chalu team when they shot in Tehri, Uttarakhand.

Shahid Kapoor along with his co-star Shraddha Kapoor decided to go out and look around the city. The two went fishing at the Tehri lake too. Shahid managed to hook a big fish. However, since he is a strict vegetarian, he felt bad about having got it out of its natural habitat. So, he quickly released it back into the water.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu directed by Shree Narayan Singh also Yami Gautam and Divyendu Sharma. The film produced by T-Series and Kriti Pictures is slated to release on 21st September

In one particular scene Sharat wanted the two superstars to travel sitting on the roof of a public bus! Here’s why!

“We shot for about two days while sitting on the roof of a crowded moving bus. People in small towns sit on the top of buses because they are always overcrowded and bus service isn’t as frequent as in cities. So, they have to get on it come what may. The bus scene brings focus on the daily struggles of people living in the small towns of India. It brings to focus their determination and courage and belief. It is one of the most iconic scenes in the movie,” reveals Varun.

Anushka says, “Sharat has exceptional eye for detail. The scenes of struggle, the spirit of self-belief in people living in such towns in India – these visuals are etched in Sharat’s mind and he wanted to present the everyday life in rural India with perfection and authenticity. He wants audiences to understand the courage that people from such parts of India have. He wants audiences to believe in Mauji and Mamta. The bus scene shows how these two characters find support and love in each other to believe that they could make a name for themselves and realise their dreams.”
