SAAMNE AA, A BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO INITIATIVE, LAUNCHED

India’s steeply dwindling child sex ratio among children under 6 years of age which reached an all-time low of 918 girls for every 1000 boys in 2011 from 976 in 1961 (RGI data)- a 6% decline in 40 years- is unhealthy.

In an initiative to continue the good work of the campaign, the BetiBachao, BetiPadhao project unit has launched Reeta Gupta’s “SaamneAa”, a song that speaks against son preference.

The song is sung by SonaMohapatra and has special performances by Paresh Rawal and SwaroopSampat. Composed by Siddharth Sharma, the song launched on 2nd August on Times Music and has already grossed more than half a million views.

Ace singer SonaMohapatra says, “SaamneAa" has a simple tune. I have kept my rendition of it simple so that the essence and meaning of the song emerge. I agreed to be part of this project because I am in line with its vision- to have a society where gender equality is the norm, not the exception.”

Speaking about Saamne Aa, Paresh Rawal, who is in Parliament session in Delhi, said, "This Government is trying to bring about a transformational shift in the way our society looks at the girl child. PM Modi's BetiBachaoBetiPadhao is one of the finest initiatives towards that.”

K Moses Chalai, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child adds, “ We are happy to support Reeta Gupta’s  Saamne Aa Initiative, as it addresses the problems of both conscious and  unconscious social bias against the girl child.”

“SaamneAa"is an overwhelming ode to the daughters of India and Times Music is honored to be associated with one of India’s most integral campaigns, BetiBachaoBetiPadhao,” said Mandar Thakur COO of Times Music.

SaamneAa is supported by Podar World School, Laadli, a population First NGO and the MCGM.

PS Keskar, the Executive Health Officer of the MCGM added, “ Our message is simple. Beta BetiEkSaman, tohkhushhaalhoga Hindustan.”

SaamneAa creator Reeta Gupta explains, “we must not be vague about the issue of gender. We must have specific action points, such as

1. Celebrate the birth of the girl child in the family
2. Raise our sons and daughters as equals.
3. Encourage varied professions for our girls.
4. Educate those who are indulging in son preference; that a daughter is every bit as capable.
5. Don't use words like para yadhan and bojh while referring to girls.
6.Report any incidence of sex determination test.
7. Encourage boys to help you with the household chores and serve guests.
8. Keep weddings simple. Share wedding expenses equally between the girl's and boy's families
9. Provide safe environments, around us where sexist behavior is discouraged.
10. Write your will, divide your property equally between your son and your daughter.”

SwaroopRawal, who, along with husband Paresh Rawal has put in a special appearance in Saamne Aa, says, “ As a mother, an educator, and an actor I believe that  Gender equality is essential to democracy and inextricably tied up with it.  ‘Son selection’ is a very major bias and impedes gender equality in India where freedom is often misunderstood and misused. I would like the birth of every girl child to be celebrated, just like my family celebrated my birth. And just like I follow my dreams I wish that each girl can pursue hers.”

RupaNaik , Executive Director, World Trade Centre also spoke on the occasion, and shared, “I have always believed that investing in a girl’s education is investing in a nation’s growth and development. Betikoapnao, apnisochkojagaoaurdeshmeinunnatilao.”

Prof A L Sharada of Laadli said,“In our work at Laadli, we emphasize that society must take specific actions to promote gender equality. The song SaamneAa is a step towards that- children, by themselves are innocent and play with each other without thinking of gender at all. But as they grow up, the unconscious biases that the elders  have, begin to shape their minds.”

RaghavPodar, Chairman Podar World School noted, “ We have always been sensitive to the subconscious biases that pervade our society, that express themselves inadvertently. We have consciously made an effort to emphasise the importance of gender parity."

Sangeeta Bijlani supports fashion for a cause

Actress Sangeeta Bijlani sure has a heart of gold and she likes giving back to the society.

The gorgeous actress is all set to be the showstopper of a fashion show this week by a renowned designer that aims to raise funds for cancer patients.

Sangeeta says, “I’m walking the ramp after a long time. It feels nostalgic. The entire cause is meant to provide free treatment to a hundred underprivileged children. Earlier, each model was a star in their own right, as there were only so many models. Today, it’s different ball game altogether, as there are so many models in each show. With new and upcoming designers every year, there are more shows happening every season. The shows are extremely professional now, unlike earlier days, when it was also a lot of entertainment.”

“There used to be choreography and we would do some dance moves on the stage before we went on the ramp. Models spent a lot of time with each other and shared a bond,” she elaborates.

Speaking about designers and their muses, Sangeeta adds, “There are too many celebrities [walking for designers] these days, which is overkill for the designer-muse [concept]. Having a muse was a big thing once, but it now seems like it does not serve much of a purpose to designers, as they cater to a larger audience.”

Veteran Actor Dharmendra ji spotted during the dubbing of his first International Short film ‘Dreamcatcher’

It is a day to set the celebration in the right tone for story telling through audio-video medium. The entertainment content viewer will see it happening, and happening soon on their digital screen from the person who is been in Industry for more than 6 decades and seen all the colors and evolution of Indian Film industry right from the time of Black & White Film era to Digital content with emerging of new platform. From more than 3 hours long movies to unique storm of Short Film, a lesser duration content to entertain people, Dharmendra. The film also has an underlying message and caters for/to the viewers, which is quite relevant to today’s time and its kaleidoscopic virtual realities. The short film, ‘Dreamcatcher’ has another uniqueness that it is a collaboration of Indian and Australian film making companies having actors from Australia Travis Jeffery and Pooja Priyanka who is an Ex-Miss Fiji. Today with the completion of dubbing Dharmendra as an actor, a work well taken up and completed with his phenomenal touch, it was surely a reason to celebrate along with the crew of the short film, ‘Dreamcatcher.’ On the occasion Dharmendra mentioned that, Daughters are as special to their Fathers as Fathers are to them. A Father is every Daughter's 1st hero, No matter where she is, A Father will always be a Guardian to her, because "Daughters are forever!"

Director Santoshh Shivamm feeling content and excitedly said, I'm sure Dharam Ji featuring in a short film carries not only uniqueness but thoughtfulness, too. As a Director, I needed authentication from a senior like Dharam ji’s stature, a legend for this, and lesser duration format. Short films need nurturing and responsible storytelling. It is a blessing that I got this opportunity to work with a living legend. Today is surely a Day and we are working day/night to complete the film since it is a story of techno savvy father with the help of science decodes, that we can have a control on. The Music Composer Rahul B Seth who is also the writer of this project was present at the occasion to provide his part in the dubbing said, being a father to a daughter myself; I always experience feelings of extreme protectiveness & Guardianship towards her. This is exactly what is conveyed in the Narrative, Dialogues, Music & Lyrics of the film "Dreamcatcher", where a father is shown to go to any lengths, just to be sure that no harm comes to his daughter with respect to the choices she makes in Life. In collaboration with the Australian company and having his maiden venture with this short film, Anurag Prasad the co-producer of Dreamcatcher also mentioned that, “Men need to come forward and participate; it is not only the fight alone for females it is also a Men’s part/duty. So here is this story as a short film featuring Dharam ji and we are here together to tell it to the world, to do something! We thank our writers Rahul B Seth and director Santoshh Shivamm. I'm a new to industry as Producer and in his entire magnanimity of Dharam Ji, obliged to him working in my first venture. ‘Dreamcatcher’ is a short film that will send out a strong message, the protectiveness and concerned father, a guardian; who would go to any length in order to make sure his daughter never gets hurt in her life and there is a surprise i.e., how?

Vinay Pathak : Bollywood suffers from ‘Cheating Dreams’ syndrome

Well, Vinay Pathak,  a trendsetter in multiplex films  should know what he is talking about, ever since he started shooting for ‘DARK BREW’, he has literally become a shrink, in interpreting dreams. And many of his Bollywood co stars, discuss and share their ‘Cheating dreams’ syndrome with him. Not surprising still, as Bollywood has rampant stories of insecurities, guilt, betrayals, sex, dating, carnal desires etc.

According to sources close to him, ‘Cheating Dreams’ syndrome or infidelity dreams is the result of trust, neglect, fear of abandonment, stagnant relationship, own insecurities and low self esteem. These dreams are the reflection of your thought process, of your present relationship status. And so you have many Bollywood couples freaking out when they dream with their hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

Vinay Pathak says in a lighter tone “Cheating Dreams syndrome is like Face book relationship status, faithful on your wall, but cheating in their inbox”

He adds “But on a serious note, those suffering from Cheating dreams syndrome should re-evaluate and reset their relationship status, as dreams could be a reflection of your thoughts and present relationship status, of your own insecurities and low self esteem. Cheating on a good person is like throwing away a diamond, and picking up a rock!”

Akshay Kumar joins the cleanliness drive Marathon

Akshay Kumar's 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', directed by Shree Narayan Singh is in sync with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan  initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently launched Swachhathon — Swachh Bharat Hackathon.

Initiated by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation the six-pronged cleanliness drive invites the youth to share innovative ideas for sanitation. The best ideas will win prizes. The contest, open from August 2 to 25, invites entries in six categories — Monitoring Usage Of Toilets, Behavioural Change, Toilet Technology, Operation and Maintenance of School Toilets, Technological Solutions for Safe Disposal of Menstrual Waste and Early Decomposition of Faecal Matter. V Radha, Joint Secretary, Ministry for Drinking Water and Sanitation, says, "These are some of our real problems The government understands the power of the people and we're looking out for ideas in innovation in toilet technology." The ministry is planning a curtain raiser on August 11. Shortlisted entries will be called for a demo in Delhi after August 25, and the finalists will clash on September 8.

Akshay, who has interacted with various groups over the Swachh movement, says, "The youth is here to make a difference, they are all about improving and empowering. It is good to see and hear how many great young and professional minds are setting about making the change."
The actor is looking forward to hearing from students as well. He states, "This isn't a cause just for villages. There are students, especially girls, who have to drop out of schools purely because of the lack of toilets and sanitation. It's so sad that in this day and age hygiene is a major concern in this country, and that we are losing out on women becoming more educated for reasons beyond their control."

As for lending support to making a movie that revolves around the cause, he sums up, "This film isn't just about preaching 'you should have a toilet, go make one'. The story encourages to teach elders and backward societies that having a toilet is not taboo; it will not only keep women safer and more comfortable, but most importantly, it will save lives. People don't understand the number of children that die every year from fecal diseases because of lack of toilets and sanitation. This film is not the answer, it is merely a stepping stone to the change that's needed."
